    Regarding the homebuyer credit:

Remember you have to keep the house at least 3 years or you will have to repay that credit. That credit is also for first time ever. If you go from one house to another, you don't get the credit. Renting to buying, yes. http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p530.pdf

The energy credits have been extended. http://www.irs.gov/formspubs/article...207332,00.html

Keep the mortgage documents, some of those nickel-and-dime closing fees are, in fact, points.

Did you have the new job before or after you moved? If before, a lot of the expenses can be deducted.http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p521.pdf

Education credits have also been extended http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p970.pdf.

When you lighten the load to move, consider donating the stuff to charities. Remember, log the items you contribute-the more detailed the better, get a tax recipt when offered--ask if they don't; and keep each donation under $5000 per day per organization. Don't use drop boxes.http://www.satruck.org/donation-value-guide

You're welcome to PM, if you have specific questions about any of these. Part of the job.
I'm trying to see things from your point of view, but I can't get my head that far up my keister!

      Any idea how RWH is?
I had the same question. Haven't seen him around at all.
1129. I will refrain from casting Dimension Jump and Magnificent Mansion on every police box we pass.

I third this. I miss being told about the awesomeness of bacon.

RetailWorkHorse is alive and well. He's actually currently packing up to move to New Mexico as well. It's just taking longer to get rid of a lot of his stuff then he expected.

He'll be coming out with Mom and Dad in the Rig (a converted school bus. I should get him to post pictures) and will take their time getting out here. (about two weeks is their estimate.)

In 13 years and 3 months (August 2022) the mortgage will be paid off. ^_^ Not bad for a 30 year loan.

That's good. I plan on buying a lot of new energy efficient appliances over the next 6 months. New fridge, a freezer, washer/dryer, low-flow toilet, windows and doors. Next year I'll be dumping the water heater for one of those neat tankless models, repaint the house and plant a small organic fruit garden.

Keep the mortgage documents, some of those nickel-and-dime closing fees are, in fact, points.
Really? I'll remember that. So far everything is stored in a file folder in the bedroom drawer.

Did you have the new job before or after you moved?
            After.

Thanks. I'll keep you in mind if I have any questions. Unfortunately, I already donated all the stuff I'm going to (everything I own had to fit in a full size Saturn) so I didn't get any receipts. I generally don't bother with it since a lot of my stuff I own I get from thrift stores anyways.

Let me know how that works for you. We're considering one.

I have a family member (a cousin? A uncle? Someone) who has one and has raved about it. But I'll be sure to let you know. They seem like they would be good to have.

I'll also be installing a whole house filter on the kitchen sink. I don't really need it in the whole house but it does come up as cheaper (both to purchase and in the long run buying filters) then buying multiple Brita or Pur filters.
