  • Dell has really outdone themselves now..

I'm trying to download the NIC drivers for an older Dell from their website (from one computer for another).

Well, I guess now you need to download this application that automatically connects to Dell's site to download all the drivers you need.

Nifty but would anyone like to take a guess at the serious issue I'm having?

You need to connect using that machine as some sort of authentication?

I edited the first post and I forgot to mention that you need to run the application on the computer that needs the drivers.

I never said "Three guesses and the first two don't count".

At least I think I've found them somewhere else.

Are you using "Download now" or "Add to my downloads"?

"Download now" starts the d/l right away, just like you would expect.........

NIC drivers says to me, Network Identification Card. Which means the problem computer isn't, by itself, connected to the 'net, therefore you can't download the app to that computer.

The correction for that, in many cases, is to swap the problem computer for the main 'net computer long enough to do so, but that's not always viable.

Well, to start of with, you're using a Dell.

Let's see if I can word this without confusing anyone. NIC stands for Network Interface Card, in other words you network card, and is usually the only way a computer is linked to the internet. If there is a driver problem you need a replacement from another source, like a disk or flash drive because you can't connect to the net.

Now Dell is saying you need to run the program on the problem machine to get the driver. This means as far as Dell is concerned, you need to connect to the internet with the machine you can't connect to the internet with.
