This theory was mentioned before on either this forum or another one I run.

The dalek death ray vs the Jedi light sabre. Can the sabre deflect the ray in the way it does the laser blasts?

If it's a focused beam, yes, it could if it's spread out in a fan, no, it wouldn't, since it wouldn't be able to get all of it.

Yes it would. And that would be cool to see. Jedi vs. Dalek.

        Begin Nerdtherorium:

In theory, yes. Blasters in the Star Wars universe are not lasers, they are plasma energy weapons. Thus a light sabre must be able to deflect a direct energy weapon. Dalek Death Rays are a direct energy weapon that typically seems to be fired as a focused beam depending on today's episode's SFX budget. They aren't lasers, as lasers would simply burn through the target, rather than inverting their colour scheme.

It would be a bit more difficut, as the death ray is a solid stream, so its like reflecting a laser with a mirror. Although that would make it easier to reflect back at the Dalek I suppose. If it would do anything to the Dalek, anyway. Death ray power seems to vary widely from episode to episode from what I've seen. -.-

        End Nerdtherorium.

It all depends on who the writer is... if it's Russel T Davies, the Daleks will almost win then Doctor Who will pull a deus ex machina and fix everything in 15 seconds.

But... Jedi have mastered 'jump'... something Daleks are lacking! And, can travel faster than walking speed.

Okay, I thought about it and have to say that yes, the Jedi would win.

Even if the Dalek's death beam couldn't be deflected by a lightsabre, many jedi could do something refered to as "Energy absorbsion." You see Darth Vader do it briefly in The Empire Strikes Back when Han takes a shot at him on Cloud City. Vader blocks the shot with his hand, and does not reflect it. I believe Yoda also uses it in one of the prequals, but I can't remember the scene ATM.

In the West End Games RPG, Energy Absorbsion has a limit to how much you can absob in a short period, which is the PSB for why Jedi don't just go around absorbing every blaster shot that comes their way. Also, slug throwers (ie. what we consider modern guns) cannot be stopped this way, but that's what some of the other force powers are for. Guess kinetic energy doesn't count for that one.
