  • I know this is going to sound rude but..

I'm getting sick of hearing about Michael Jackson. I can't even flip though 3-4 channels and not hear his name within 10 seconds.

BREAKING NEWS - the same news story about the lottery for his viewing.

NEW NEWS! Specials on MJ, specials on his family, specials on Thriller, specials on that.

Enough already!! Farrah Fawcett died and I only saw her in the news for a few hours. We've lost many other popular famous people and not a single one of them got 1% of the coverage that MJ is getting.

    Enough is enough!!

Don't worry, you are by no means the only one who feels this way. I guess we won't see the end of it for a few months yet, especially with his Dad stirring stuff up. Oooh, the drama .

Non-stop Michael Jackson coverage and non-stop prescription drug ads.

Yet two more reasons why I'm pondering getting rid of cable.

          Amen, Brothers and Sisters!

I am getting mightily sick of the media hype surrounding the death of Michael Jackson.

Yes, he was a great musical talent but he's dead. Get over it! Elvis died, Jimi died, Janis died, Jim Morrison died and John Belushi all died before their time but, in a way, they determined the time of their own death by choosing to become dependent on drugs and alcohol.

I hope all these people rest in peace. I'll continue to enjoy their work but I'm not going to idolize them. They should have known better.

AGREED! Please get back to real news--I won't give examples (out of concern that this post will get relocated to Fratching).
I'm trying to see things from your point of view, but I can't get my head that far up my keister!

I just found out they're pre-empting my soap to cover MJ's funeral. I am not a happy camper

I must admit that I've enjoyed a fair amount of coverage and special events for his death, such as:

Michael Jackson: King of Videos special on VH1
Death of an Icon special on VH1
Special presentation of the "Do The Bartman" video, (co-written by Jackson) before The Simpsons on 6/28
Special Replay of "Stark Raving Dad" (Simpsons episode guest-starring Jackson) yesterday

I will also probably watch the funeral tomorrow, and am looking forward to getting the new issue of Entertainment Weekly that will, no doubt be about him. The difference is that all of these things are through appropriate channels, whose stated purpose is entertainment and entertainment coverage, and are celebrating what he accomplished. I'm glad that the funeral will be broadcast, because this really is a major event, but I feel like most news sources have better things to do with their time than bother with all of this bottom-feeding tabloid crap.

                    Exactly, Sancho.

I don't mind the tributes, showing his videos, movies, clips of live performances...all of that is great. And I don't mind that the memorial will be broadcast. He was a major pop culture figure; the news is going to show his memorial. What I hate is all of the Joe Jackson/who's the babymomma/who's gonna get the money/what exactly did he die of nonsense. It's irrelevant to everyone but his immediate family, lawyers, and close friends. But, as one guy on CNN pointed out, Michael Jackson was surrounded by a lot of greedy, money-grubbing people (his father being the worst) and they will be milking this for all it's worth. Sad, really, especially for his children.

Sometimes I swear that whoever invented a DVR was the most intelligent alien on the planet. It's saved me the need to feel like I need medicated to deal with the commercials telling me I need to be medicated -- and saves me the trouble of ever being stuck at home, with a headache, and having to watch crap on TV.

Whenever I see someone die that gets tons of coverage, I try to think of all the millions of people that die that have almost no one who cares, or just a handful of people -- and try to remember them (even though I don't know any of them) just because I feel they deserve it just as much.

Hehe, I felt the same way during the OJ Simpson trial... I don't watch any soaps anymore and I will no doubt be at work during the funeral, anyway.

I got it the other day. He's got 29 pages plus the cover. His life in pictures, the ultimate Jackson playlist, all his albums rated, etc...

Add me to the list of people who are tired of hearing about it.

I am also quite bothered by that fact that the man has been dead for almost 2 weeks and they have yet to bury him. Are they planning on putting him on display somewhere because this is just getting to be rather gross.

No matter what you think of him and what your opinions are on the man (I am not a huge fan I will readily admit), just put him to rest already and let him be! This cannot be good for those children either to see this dragged in day in and day out.

And don't even get me started on his father.

Look, I like MJ and have enjoyed, like Sancho, some of the specials. I'll check in to the memorial every once and a while today (I'm SHOCKED that MTV is actually covering it) and that's that.

I'm tired of wanting to watch the news and hearing about him. A blurb or two is fine...but continuing to dedicate large segments of their program to MJ....eh.

I even unsubscribed myself to CNN on Twitter because their "breaking news" updates were mostly about MJ. I get the alerts on my phone. This morning, I was woken up by the annoucement that his body was going to be at the Staples center. CNN--that is NOT breaking news!
