  • Carnivorous plants

OK, with the flies outside (hot summer days + dog poop (that isn't or can't be cleaned up) + chickens = lots of flies) I've decided (seriously) to get some carnivorous plants. But, I have several questions!

    1) Where should I go to get some? I'm sure feeding them won't be an issue due to the amount of flies out there.

    2) WHAT should I get?

    3) How should I grow them? Size of pot? Placement in the patio? South Florida can get very hot (100+ days in a row) but can vary w/ sun and rain (no rain from Nov-May, lots of rain from May to Nov - but I can water in the dry season). I do have a pot, about 1' high, 1' diameter that I may pull out what's in there and use that one.

Well, if she doesn't find this thread herself, I would suggest PMing spark...assuming her plants haven't eaten her yet

I thought one of the benefits of raising chickens was they ate insects? Do they not like flies?

I've been thinking of urban raising some - would that result in flies in my backyard?

Chickens love bugs but flies are too fast for them - yes, you'll get more bugs with chickens but they'll eat a lot of them and the bugs will be minimal from them if you keep the coop clean.
