I've seen a couple on Alligator Alley - they were probably hit by an 18-wheeler.

And as for the sign - yes, you do need them with the tourists that are intellectually challenged. "Hey, the guy on TV makes it look easy to stick your hand / head in their mouth! Let's try that! **CHOMP**
Well there's no tourists where I work. It's in the middle of an industrial park. (I do customer service for a credit card) That being said, some of my coworkers are morons. *sighs*

Gators? That really must be a southern Florida thing. I see aradillos all the time (and possum) up here but no gators. However outside of the building where I work there is a sign that says do not feed the Gators next to the retention ponds. Seriously? Do we really need that sort of warning?

If theres one thing I've learned from these forums, it's never underestimate the extent of human stupidity. Im sure theres some idiot out there who thought it was a good idea to give the 20 ft gator a meal. Otherwise, there would be no need for the sign. I bet said idiot is missing a limb or two........

Hillbilly told him "Hail, where I's from, we scrape dem off the ground and eat em'!"
LOL, I've done that with a few deer out front.

In my defense, I saw/heard them get hit by cars and the butchering commenced while they were still fresh.
The way I see it, they were dead, no matter what. They would either lay by the side of the road eventually stinking up the place, or we can have dinner for a month.

My co-worker was telling me about the rummage sale her family recently held.

One of the browsers was a real hillbilly, speaking in a thick southern accent. He got to talking to one of her relatives and the conversation turned to dead animals like raccoons, rabbits and squirrels that you might find along the local highways.

Hillbilly told him "Hail, where I's from, we scrape dem off the ground and eat em'!"

My boss is a very big animal lover - remember we have a cat that lives in our office. There had been a feral cat hanging around for several weeks. She had tried to catch him and kept food (both dry and canned) and water out for him to keep him around. Apparently, while I was off work last week, she caught him in a live trap. She took him to a vet, who neutered him and treated all of his injuries. He is back in our warehouse now in a huge cage. She wants to keep an eye on him for a few more days before letting him loose. She hopes he will choose to live in the warehouse. Then, on the way home last night, she found a young dog and took him home with her. So today, he was also in a large crate in the warehous (when the other owner wasn't walking him around in the front yard of our building) Seems that the dog and the other owner have really bonded and I wouldn't be surprized to see him adopt the dog. But it is kind of like working in a zoo at times.
