  • Strange Place for a Honeymoon

The daughter of one of my coworkers is getting married later this year. She said they've already booked their honeymoon in Salt Lake City. What is in Salt Lake City that says to anybody "romantic getaway"? Somebody mentioned Zion National Park, but even that doesn't seem like honeymoon material to me.

Granted, I'm all the way on the other side of the country. Can anybody fill me in on why anybody would want to visit SLC? Especially for a honeymoon? I'm so confused.
"I look at the stars. It's a clear night and the Milky Way seems so near. That's where I'll be going soon. "We are all star stuff." I suddenly remember Delenn's line from Joe's script. Not a bad prospect. I am not afraid. In the meantime, let me close my eyes and sense the beauty around me. And take that breath under the dark sky full of stars. Breathe in. Breathe out. That's all."

I've been to SLC, and can't think of a thing I'd want to go back for, especially not for a honeymoon.

I've been to SLC for a grad paper presentation, and while it is a lovely ( and clean!!) city, and the Great Salt Lake is def an amazing site.....I wouldn't honeymoon there. Go back for a visit, maybe....not honeymoon.

Ask SmileyEagle. He lives and works there. FWIW, we honeymooned in Hershey, PA (my wife is a chocaholic).
I'm trying to see things from your point of view, but I can't get my head that far up my keister!

Hershey, PA rules. While we were waiting in line for a ride, my friend looked over the gate.....saw a bar simply called "Bar," and inquired if it was the "Hershey Bar."

Do you know that religion they are? Maybe they're LDS.

Nope. Not LDS. All I can figure is that they wanted to go somewhere where they wouldn't feel like they needed to leave their hotel room.

Hehe, yeah, why bother going someplace interesting for your honeymoon? If you do it right, you won't see any of the sights anyway.

And yeah, Smiley Eagle does live there, but from some of his recent threads I'm not sure he'll be able to give you a good reason to honeymoon there..

Skiing, maybe? Although I would think Park City or someplace with a cabin would be better...

None, but that's not the point. My philosophy is still that if you're doing it right, you won't be doing much sightseeing outside of your hotel room.

Different people have different likes. For instance, being a football fan, I find going to Canton, Ohio (home to the Pro Football Hall of Fame) to be a totally fulfilling vacation. As an amusement park enthusiast, I could have fun in Jackson, New Jersey (Six Flags Great Adventure) or Sandusky, Ohio (Cedar Point), among other places. I am not saying I would honeymoon in any of these places, but if my bride shared my enthusiasm for such activities, why not?

Perhaps these two like something that goes on in SLC, or maybe they just like the area, or any other number of things.

Not everyone wants to go to France, Italy, or Jamaica, ya know.

And then there is always that....maybe they just want to go somewhere atypical so they can afford to get away without going to a typical getaway type place.

As could I. I love the tropics, I love beaches, I love rum. Jamaica is all of those. But some people like cold weather, mountains, skiing, cities, winter, etc. I could never enjoy a honeymoon with snow, but that doesn't mean no one else could.

My point is just that different people enjoy different things.
