  • Why Mysty is now terrified of a fake plant

A little bit of funny frivolity to the board...funny now anyway, it wasn't funny about 15 minutes ago

I'm sitting at the computer, talking to Catherine on AIM, minding my own business. I'd just typed a response to her and flipped over to CS.com to read a few posts. For reference, there's a silk plant of some kind hanging over our computer, I don't know why.

So I'm reading a post, I don't know what, and suddenly PLOP, something lands on my head. I flip my head forward out of instinct to knock it off, thinking my sister or mother tossed something at me (it happens), it hits the keyboard, I look down to see what it is-

    FUCKING CENTIPEDE.

In case you're like me and too horrified to put two and two together, I'll lay it out. I was assaulted from above by a centipede.

My father's quote on the volume and intensity of the screaming was "I thought someone was getting attacked!"

And my parents don't seem to understand how I can react calmly and just squash a centipede I see crawling across the floor, and yet hyperventilated for five minutes after this just happened. THERE IS A DIFFERENCE! There is a HUGE difference between "Crawling bug on the floor" and "Crawling bug FALLING OUT OF THE FUCKING SKY".

I have typed all this at arm's length because I am not sitting under that gorram plant anymore...

I need ice cream and a Magic Bullet commercial now...
"Maybe the problem just went away...maybe it was the magical sniper fairy that comes and gives silenced hollow point rounds to people who don't eat their vegetables."

You can have some of my ice cream, mind you I've been mixing it with wine.
How was I supposed to know someone was slipping you Birth Control in the food I've been making for you lately?

I find myself brushing off the top of my head, reading that. And there's nothing hanging above me. *shudder*

Move the plant. Best solution. Then burn it.

I think I'd be sitting under my desk for the rest of the day after that.

I was dining once in the patio of a restaurant once, when a worm fell out of the tree next to me and into my hair.

I don't eat next to trees any more.

I HATE centipedes, millipedes, arachnids, really anything with more than 6 legs. Why do you need more than 6 legs to get around? It's unnatural.

I'm usually ok with bugs like spiders or ants or flies. But things that look like aliens? I'd freak out, too.

if it makes you feel any better House centipedes feed on spiders, bedbugs, termites, cockroaches, silverfish, ants and other household arthropods.-and for the most part centipedes try to avoid light unlike their prey.

Personally I'm quite fond of them.......
Honestly.... the image of that in my head made me go "AWESOME!"..... and then I remembered I am terribly strange.-Red dazes

Hey, I'm right there with you. I don't want shit falling out of plants or anything else onto my head.

That's why I wear a hat with a brim outside. So shit doesn't fall on my head when I'm under the trees. We have ticks and snakes in the trees here. I don't expect to have to wear a hat inside the house.

I'm not afraid of centipedes, but I don't like them. And I sure don't want one on my damn head.

Had it been me, and the offending bug been a roach, ya'll would be hearing about it on the 11 o'clock news.

EDIT: WTF is up with the millipedes this summer? Jeez! Everywhere!

                        Conversation with sister follows:

                        Sister: What is this bug?
Me: That's a flat backed millepede. Show it to your son.
Sister. Okay. I'll put it in his little bug cage for now and let it go later.
                        Me: Cool.
                        Sister: (puts bug in cage)
Me: Don't let him handle it.
                        Sister: Why?
                        Me: They exude cyanide.
Sister: (insert volume 11 flip out) What? WHAT? YOU LET ME PUT A FUCKING POISON SOAKED BUG IN MY FOUR YEAR OLD'S BUG CAGE???
Me: Just wash the cage when you're done, it's not enough to worry about. Geez.
                        Sister: Holy shit!
Me: Lemme see it...see, it's not that bad. (takes whiff. Overwhelming cyanide smell). Hm....yeah. Maybe it is that bad. Just wash the cage when you're done.
                        Sister: AAAAGH!
Me: And don't lick the millepede.

Really? I did not know that! Interesting, I wonder why that is?

                              Actually, it's smells wonderful!
