I absolutely adore my four-plex. I don't share a wall with anyone, although I do have to be aware of my downstairs neighbor.

ETA: In my town, a four-plex in a quiet neighborhood is a much better option than a house in the student ghetto. Yay, college town!

I'm so glad I don't have to live in an apartment any more. I then moved to a separate house in a quiet neighborhood in the city of El Paso, which was very nice.

Then I moved out to the middle of nowhere. I'm 20 miles out of town, in the surrounding mountains; my house (a used double-wide trailer which I've fixed and upgraded) is on a 5 acre lot; my nearest neighbor is one-and-a-half football fields away; and it is AMAZINGLY quiet out here.

This lifestyle may not work for someone who needs the bustle of the city and a nearby fast-food joint, but I love it.

Dammit Shadow. We're looking for a place to move to and you just stole our dream home!

We've been living at a lease-to-own house here for four years and the one next door to us some asshole flipper bought it and flipped it over to Section 8. For those that don't live in the US this explains the "Section 8" housing program....

I knew trouble was coming. The first family that they moved in decided to harass us by calling animal control on us half a dozen times. The calls stopped when they moved out. The next people they moved in have now decided to host loud-ass front porch ghetto parties late at night. Sorry but that's not gonna work with me when the school year starts because I work in the schools and I need to be in bed between 10 and 6 at night, and I'm not the kind of person to just sit on my ass collecting welfare.

My mom will even say the worst job she ever had was working for the Housing Authority at the courthouse. She even liked her job at the AODA dealing with drunks more than helping people get set up with housing.

Well right now we're waiting on the underwriter to check a few collection delinquencies on my credit report to see if whether or not they're gonna require that I get those paid off before they officially offer us a bank loan for a home. The system initially approved us for $67,000. So the computer's underwriter program said everything's cool. Now it has to be run by the human underwriter for final approval. If it goes through the bank will pitch in $5,000 for the down payment and another low-income program for first-time buyers will help cover closing costs. Plus we'll get a tax credit equal to 10 percent of the purchasing price through the IRS. We're still waiting on it all go through, but with the housing market not getting better around here I think prices will go down even more in a few months.
