I wash my hair once a week ... I used to have oily hair, but a stylist told me that if I simply water rinsed my hair when I showered, and washed it with a gentle castile soap once a week, and brushed it thoroughly my hair would improve.
See, much of the time the scalp produces oils to combat being over dried out by shampoo. Rinsing with water gets any environmental dust off, and the frequent brushings spread the natural oils out the way they are supposed to be. I like to occasionally rinse with cider vinegar and rarely [about once every 5 years or so] I will use a semi permanent dye for the hell of it. I think it is about time to do it again, I have been thinking black cherry this time [last time was purple]
henna is good if you want a natural colorant and conditioner. I used to henna my hair for about 4 years. I would henna it early in the morning saturday and finish up after washing it out by conditioning with hot olive oil and a vinegar rinse.EVE Online: 99% of the time you sit around waiting for something to happen, but that 1% of action is what hooks people like crack, you don't get interviewed by the BBC for a WoW raid.

I tried this route once, for several months.Quoth AccountingDrone View PostI wash my hair once a week ... so not pretty.
My hair is an untameable fuzzball on the best of days. When I get it cut I have to have it layered to death and thinned, and occasionally, it has to be thinned with a razor comb. Then it's only somewhat poofy and frizzy, and the odds of breaking a comb/elastic are only about 50% of the time.
As it is, I hate when I lose power. Not being able to blow dry it into some submission is a nightmare. Letting it airdry...? <Shudder>

It sounds like your hair is similar in texture to mine, only I don't have a problem with my hair being dry OR oily. I do have a frizz problem.
Fructis Sleek and Shine leave in conditioning creme is the best stuff I've used. And it's cheap. Hit it with that, then blow it out with a roller-brush attachment with a metal or ceramic shaft. Cold air finish. If you need to, put a little more of the product on and finish with a humidity proof hairspray.
That witchlock you see in the avatar pic? It's comprised mostly of grey hair. Grey hair is very, very frizzy and wiry. This treatment really helps smooth it out.
