  • Giving good gifts

Normally, I am not so hot at giving gifts. I really try, but often end up just looking silly in the process. The only exception is when I'm getting something for a friend who's just as weird as me.

So, I went to a book signing a few weeks ago, where Buzz Aldrin was signing his newest book. I got the book signed, and wrapped it up for a friend of mine who's a huge space geek. I gave it to him weeks ago and told him he might want to open it in time for the moon landing anniversary, but he didn't. Punk. Anyhow, his birthday was yesterday. I got an ecstatic email this morning, asking me how in heck I managed to pull off getting him Aldrin's autograph.

It doesn't happen very often, but it looks like I actually managed to give someone something they wanted this time! Woohoo!

That's great! It's usually tough for most people to get just the right gift but you did it!

But where did you ever find anyone as weird as you? hehehe

I live in Southern California, between LA and Disneyland. One of the highest weirdos-per-capita locations in the world! Geez, out here I'm practically normal!

And the one-of-a-kind weirdos. My favorite was the guy who would wear full werewolf costume, incl. a tail under his jeans and plaid shirt every Friday night on Hollywood Blvd.

Yeah, there are always those. Personally, I love it. Never a dull moment out here!

There's a formula for an ideal gift: "Something a person can use but would never buy for him/herself." Beware, it can be more difficult to satisfy both those conditions than you may realize.

Well, this begs the obvious question: if the costume was under his clothes, how, precisely, did you know about it?
