I ran my old Razr through the washing machine once (didn't check all pockets before tossing my shorts in).

I was looking for my phone a little while later and realized... shit.. it's probably in there. Pulled the shorts out while it was on spin cycle and sure enough it was in there, totally dead.

Pulled it apart and left the battery out for 3 days. Tried turning it on after that and it did turn on, displayed some errors on the screen and turned back off. Left it another few days and it worked fine except the buttons don't light up anymore. Battery life went to hell though. It still works to this day, I just don't use it anymore.

I don't feel so bad now. I washed my phone a few weeks ago. The spin cycle doesn't do much for electronic components.

Its a samsung u740 (one of those dual flip phones) w/the QWERTY keyboard when opened longways.
        Is yours a Verizon Alias?

I can't get at the SIM card without basically dismantelling the phone (which im not prepared to do).
If it doesn't come back to life, that may be your only option. Remember, water damage isn't covered under your warranty, so, if the dunking was sufficient to trigger the telltales, you will probably have to replace the phone. The upside is, as far as recovering the SIM card, is that you wouldn't have to worry about putting the phone back together again, so, you wouldn't have to be as careful.

            Phone's working now

FYI for the hair dryer I had it on the low heat/low power setting so it didn't get TOO hot. didn't wanna fry anything.

Anyways thanks for the advice from everyone. Basically im pretty sure the rice trick and keeping fan on it for 3 days (keeps air flowing around/through it). worked.

Only thing that's really screwed up is the camera messed, which is fine since cell phone cams suck balls anyways I have a nice 10 MP digial cam that i use for pics anyways.

and sometimes the volume button has to be pushed more than once or held to get it to go up or down. But all in all not a big deal and better than paying $400 for a new phone.

Ummm - a Samsung u740 does *NOT* have a SIM in it. It's a CMDA phone, so there's no nice and easy way to replace it.

Glad that you managed to get it working enough for you.

GRRRR!!!!! After saying my phone works good as new after it's shower, 6 months later - today I wake up & the screen & sound are both dead.
Looks like I'm off to see Vodafone for that upgrade they keep calling me about, lucky it's Sunday & I have the day off.
