  • Damn them!

I need out of my roommate situation, badly.

The other day, Secundus decided to disconnect my computer from the internet, because I was "becoming reclusive...". She gave it back the next day, after I spent it job hunting.

For the past week, they've been saying, "Starting in September, if Secundus buys $50 worth of groceries, everyone buys $50 worth of groceries, too, or," you don't eat. They decided that tonight is apparently close enough to September for the fact that I can't put in the same $10 they are to not let me eat dinner. Five days before your deadline, I have NO MONEY, and you know it.

And I'm STILL not responsible for their dog if they're home, damn it.

There's a countdown on our community whiteboard (technically, mine...) 39 days to get a job or a new apartment. Which makes sense to me, however, in OK, you need to have a job to apply for an apartment... nice catch 22 there.

    Good grief.

I'd like to try and convince you not to leave their bloody corpses lying in the living room. For one thing, it's unsanitary. For another, even though they feed you in prison, it's otherwise not a pleasant environment.

At least see if you can get some ramen for the next few days. Going on interviews looking like you're in the middle of a famine is not conducive to success.

I have some frozen waffles in the freezer currently... I'm not going to starve immediately. Nonetheless, it's not fair that they keep moving their requirements for me to live here... it's pushed me to start scouring Craigslist for other possible apartments, preferably one bedrooms... and then I plan to gather a friend from Canada who is currently living in a shelter and bring him to live with me.

        What. The. Fuck.

        That is all.

You're more than welcome to stop by for supper or breakfast here. Just don't make a mess and do the dishes when you're done and I'm happy.

I clean what I mess up. Which is apparently lost on Secundus.
I didn't dirty those pots and pans, I'm not your mother. Primus did, and she's capable of cleaning for herself.

I feel your pain Juwl. I have a room mate. Until just a few days ago I had multiple room mates, but the 16 year old daughter of the one was so intolerable that room mate #1 and I collectively told mom and daughter to find someplace else to live. However, that's neither here nor there.

What room mate and I have set up is each of us is responsible for our own groceries. I have a section of the freezer and the fridge for my perishibles and keep non perishables on shelves in my room (You'd be AMAZED at how much food you can pack into a small space if you're careful about packaging. I keep about a month's worth of individually packaged servings of meat and several bags of frozen vegetables in about 2/3 of a cubic foot in the freezer). We each also clean up our own messes. That avoids a LOT of unpleasantness about 'paying your share' and such for food. On the up side, for me anyway, my grocery bill went DOWN quite a lot when we switched to this, as I prefer to eat simply, where she seems to have a preference for more expensive prepared foods and snacks and such. For $50 I can get enough groceries to last me 4-6 weeks, easily.

Have you looked into various assistance programs for food stamps and the like? Even having room mates, you might be eligible for some help. Finding a job these days is TOUGH, I went through about 4 months of being jobless recently myself, had to settle for a part time job that I hated for SOME income, and just lately found a full time postition that I actually am enjoying.

Hang in there, and DO get out and fill out applications EVERYWHERE you can get to. Even for part time positions. If you can, get the Sunday newspaper and go through the help wanted section and make a list of places to call or visit. Then start working down your list bright and early Monday morning, there are a lot of folks looking for jobs and employers seem to be developing the habit of only considering the first few people to respond.

If buying a paper is problematic due to lack of funds, look into visiting your local public library, they usually have newspapers available to read, but I wouldn't recommend going the online route for local help wanted ads. Here at least, listings that are in the paper often aren't on line as well, plus, you have to wade through all the BS scam listings.

As far as my internet goes, room mate CAN'T take it away, the modem is in my room and she isn't computer literate enough to be able to figure out which one it is and how to disable it anyhow. And I have to say there's nothing wrong with being reclusive. I warned my room mate when we were moving in that I was an anti-social cave dweller, and she'd rarely see anything of me when I'm home. She scoffed, but she quickly came to learn that I wasn't joking.

If you're remotely near Texas, let me know, I'll give you a place to crash until you're on your feet. And I'll buy some food, and if you contact me near one of my days off, I'll try to pick you up. But you can't drive my car. (my insurance is INCREDIBLY picky about who drives it.. plus it's a stick shift)

The catch is, I live in a TINY apartment with a pissed off cat and have people over a lot.

That's very kind of you. If I'm heading back Texas way, it'll be to move back in with the parents again... Yeah, that's how bad my roommate situation is... I'd rather live with my parents again...

Kittish, I can do nothing about the internet situation... it's not in my room, and while I do know more about it than they do, they know enough to unhook it...

She took away your internet? I'm guessing you have a second mother that you didn't know about? I'm going to assume that you pay a portion of the internet bill and if you're current on it then she can't 'take away your internet'

I'm not really sure HOW the internet is working right now... Primus owes both of us a lot of money, and offered to take on the costs of the electric bill and the internet in an attempt to repay us... so, yes, kind of, my part of the internet is paid.

3 come to mind, but I'm a Network major(IT) If you have a router you can deny Primus access to messing with the internet....unless the power cord gets pulled lol

                            Update:

Got sat down today, and told, basically, "You're a terrible roommate. You have until the 11th to get out," in short.
Got the okay from the parents to move back in, on a temporary basis... I'll be looking into HUD apartments in the area, as I am disabled... and surviving off that disability pay...
