  • This is it!

In about 45 minutes, I will be leaving my tiny ho dink town to go to another town for school!

Everything is all packed up and in the van. My cat is acting all depressed. He must have caught on.

I'm gonna miss it here, but I can't wait for the new adventures that await me.

Balright. I'm all moved in. My part of the room is to my satisfaction. I got my textbooks, which we only rent. We don't buy at all! Wooo!

I'm just chilling, waiting for the fun stuff they have for the Freshmen.

While getting my textbooks, one of the sororities was asking the females to come to recruiting stuff. The head girl even told me that she thought I was really cool and wanted to get to know me better and become friends! How frikken sweet is that?

Sounds like you're off to a running start! Is your roommate there yet? Textbooks already? Wow. My school was so tiny that at the beginning of the semester they turned the theater into an extension of the bookstore by rolling back the bleachers and bringing in long tables. All the books that profs ordered for their classes were there and you just had to go find them. The rest of the year there was a limited selection of basic reference books, and some other textbooks in the bookstore but that was it.

We didn't have frats or sororities at my school. (Though I was frankly quite happy with that, as I had no interest in joining one.) The only "Greek organizations" were the various honor societies.

                  Oh, honey.

I could be wrong, but she may have just been saying that to get you to Rush.

I don't understand what the big is with fraternities and sororities anyway, other than to get pissed up on an almost nightly basis.

If there were any at school, hell if I knew where their houses were and who was in them.

I too would say the sorority girl was just talking you up to get you to rush.

Glad to hear things are going great so far!

Agreed with the greek stuff. At my school, it was basically a "pay for guaranteed friends" deal. And it's EXPENSIVE. There are dues, you have this formal event and that formal event...and you can't wear the same dress twice! The Greek parking lot at my school (by the Greek housing, of course) looked like a luxury car lot.

I found a lot (not all, but a lot) of Sorority girls to be superficial, and a lot of the Frat guys looking around every corner to get laid. Sorry to be blunt, but...well, I'm known for being blunt. In my opinion, you can find a much wider range of friends by talking to people in your classes or random people in the library. Good luck!

Well,I'm going to check out their recruitment events, just to see what's going on and how they work. They aren't the stereotypical sorority that I have seen thus far. Some of their events do include going to the Humane Society and the like. I dunno. It's nice to keep one's options open. I most likely won't join, but it's good to check things out.

No harm in checking out everything. There's tons of stuff to join on any campus, so find what interests you and you'll find plenty of like-minded people to befriend there.
