  • My renovation

I am so pleased with the final result that I decided to share it with you.

This is the "Before" picture, taken the day after we moved in 5 years ago. The only thing that had changed was the shower curtain and the fact that the room got even shabbier looking.:

and here is the after picture:

      And more pictures.

My brothers did all the work for me.

I think it was about a month in progress, simply because they weren't working at it steady, and had to fit it in between their day jobs, but when my younger brother was able to concentrate on just the bathroom, he went from completely tearing off all the old walls to the finished project in about 2 weeks.

One of the benefits of working in a home improvement store is access to a lot of knowledge and ideas, plus a staff discount.

I put up with those god-awful harvest gold fixtures for 5 years and I finally decided this year that I had enough.

              My tile was 40% off.
I got all 3 cabinets (vanity, medicine cabinet, and linen cabinet) for $100 because they were "scratch 'n dent".

The vanity top was on sale.

The toilet, tub, both faucets and the rest of the items such as trim and paint weren't on sale, but I got my discount for those.
The toilet was a "kit" and it had everything I needed in one box for one price.

The labour was all free. (I love my family.)

Now I can't wait for the kitchen to be finished.

Nice. I like the contrast of the dark furniture and the white wall. I love the tile!

Can't wait to see what your brother does for your kitchen . . . he's really talented.

Whoa, I can't even believe that's the same room!

And you put wainscoting, too. I love it. Been thinking about putting some in both my bathrooms.

In fact, when I first moved, I faked it with paint in one bathroom. :-)

Love the black cabinetry and the beautiful flooring, too. Very nice. Did you design it?

                        I did design it.
I knew exactly what I wanted.
I had seen the vanity and toilet at work and I fell in love

I was a bit excited when the cabinets ended up being scratch 'n dent.
The vanity cabinet alone normally retails for about $250, and I got it for just over $30.

My brother tried to talk me out of the wainscoting and the vanity.
He said the wainscoting would make the bathroom look smaller, and he thought I should have gone with a pedestal sink because the doors open so close to the tub.
He thought the pedestal would be better.

                        I didn't care.

When it was all done, he was just as happy with it as I was.

I had picked out a tile, but the blue was really light.
The girl in flooring is an absolute sweetheart.
She jumped online immediately to the supplier's site and pointed out a darker colour called "Cobalt".
                        It was 40% off.
I got it for just over $2/sq ft.

Again, my brother was a bit iffy on the blue floor with the beige walls, but when it was all put together, the colour worked.

                          Ree,
Youve done better than I ever would decorating.

                          Congrats, it look mah-vel-ous.
