How do YOU water your dog?

Ours has decided that the bathtub water tastes much better than the dumb 'ole water from his bowl.

Bear doesn't have an issue with her water bowl, although she usually gets more on the floor than in her mouth.

The cats have one of those special bubblers (those little mini things that you fill and it keeps a steady amount of water in the bowl as it empties) and they ONLY use it when they eat. I empty it out and refill it once a week even though they rarely use it just because the water gets so gross. When they aren't drinking, they want to drink from Bear's bowl.

That and the tub and the toilet are their other favorites. I thought dogs were supposed to drink from the toilet.....but nope, not Bear. It's almost a daily occurance to catch one or both of the cats in the tub or toilet.

I've heard some cats/dogs are more sensitive to standing water than others. Could be anything from the temperature of the water to just it being too stale for them. Cute to see him drinking out the tub like that, and no problems for him if it's fine for you.

kitty doesn't have a water problem but he does like to take a few kibbles, drop them on the floor, eat from the floor, and repeat.

My parents had a cat that would drink out of the bathroom sink. You had to turn the water on in a light, steady stream and she'd stick her had under the faucet and drink the water as it hit the sink, getting her head soaked in the process.

Before Mom and Dad taught him that tubs make water, he didn't have a problem with his water bowl. He's just really funny. It's almost like he likes being human. When we go to starbucks and sit outside, we get a cup of ice water for him. He likes the starbucks water better than the bottled water we also bring...he's hilarious.

We keep the toilet lids down, so he's never had toilet water from our house. We were at our friends' house one night though (they have Booker's best friend, also a chocolate lab), and the toilet lid was up. We heard him drinking water, and he came out of the bathroom with a "what?" look on his face. He's the best doggy ever. He talks back sometimes, has a huge personality, asks to chase his 'dot' once it gets dark... Smart boy!

I adore Labs!! I kinda want a Chocolate Lab (though within watching a few minutes of Marley and Me, my bf said "no dogs ever!" lol)

I think animal prefer running water because standing water (in the wild) may have bugs and other no so pleasantness in it....I think it's all instinct.

Or.....more likely....its to confuse humans

When we had a cocker spaniel, she never had any desire to drink water from anywhere but her water bowl.

My beagle on the other hand, isn't very picky. When we first got him off the streets, he drank from the toilet before he found his water bowl, then that stopped. We finally convinced him that pool water is bad. He really likes puddles of water.

Pablo did this...except he liked to eat in his bed. He'd take a piece, hop in the side of the bed, drop it, "dig" for it, hop out the front of the bed, get another piece, and repeat. Sometimes he'd take a few pieces at once. When he was at my house he ate on the footrest of the armchair, but the basic pattern was the same.

My cousin's cat did that...they would turn on the sink in the little kitchen island to just a trickle for her. My boy likes to play with the water in the tub. We used to turn it on and he'd try to catch the water before it went down the drain. My mom got one of those self-refilling water dishes but she couldn't use it because when she tested it out he just played with the water and made a mess.

Luckily, I've never had a dog big enough to drink out of the toilet...grew up with a miniature schnauzer, and then had Pablo, who was only 5 pounds and maybe 8 inches high.

Our dogs were all fine with water bowls, but our cats all have their quirks. Murloc loves to play in any kind of water, Paws will sit by the kitchen water bowl and wash her huge fluffy paws on it, and Kelli likes to drink from running water. Inky's the only normal kitty! Bout time he's normal in SOME way...

Our kitty is a bit spoiled as well. Last summer, we had a major heatwave (triple digits) and our A/C was broken. We were so worried about the cat drinking enough, we put an extra bowl of water into the sink by our bathroom (actually, in our bedroom) where she spends most of her time in the day, opposite side of the house to her normal water dish (we put it there because she would occasionally try to catch drops if the sink dripped). And we didn't think, and left it there, so now she not only demands it stay, but when we come into the room, she jumps up on the counter, and waits for us to turn on the tap and freshen up her water dish.

At least she doesn't drink toilet water - we keep the lids closed cause she thinks it's great fun to splash about with her paw.

Our Yorkie (whom we lost two years ago) was extremely picky about her water dish. We had one at home, one for travel, and that was it. She especially did NOT drink from public water dishes (which lots of shop owners put out for any dogs), but would even refuse private dishes if not her own, such as the 300 year old dish a kind antique dealer at a fair filled with water for her because she thought she looked thirsty (DH had gone to the car for her dish, which she happily drank from after turning up her nose at the antique, LOL).

My dog (lives with my parents) drinks from the bowl just fine. But if the water is not fresh enough for him, he'll sit in front of it and look at you like, "Well? Fix it, human!" This is the same dog that will tug you to the door when he wants to go out.
