Tonight when I got home from work a strange dog came up to me. She was extremely friendly and practically laid down on my feet when I got out of my car. This is a beautiful husky-like animal with striking blue eyes.
Problems:
1. It’s after midnight.
2. She has no collar.
She literally followed me back to my house and tried to come inside with me. I put her in my backyard (it’s fenced in and dog-safe), fed, watered, and brushed her. I’m hoping that she merely got out of a neighbor’s house and was wandering. Unfortunately, I live by a park and people tend to dump pets there – that’s how I got my current dog.
Tomorrow I’m going to ask around my neighbors to see if anyone knows where this dog belongs. I don’t want to call animal control because she doesn’t have a collar and they would put her down. She’s obviously a pet; her eyes are clear, her coat is in good condition, she’s used to being inside, and she’s not afraid of people (i.e. no signs of being abused). I hope, hope, hope I can find her owner because otherwise I don’t know what to do. I live with my parents and my mother is not an animal person; she likes my current dog but she has said no more pets. I also don’t think I can be responsible for another pet; I’m working two jobs as well as going to school full-time. But I can’t just leave this animal to be lost and/or destroyed! She came up to me, dammit, and now she’s my responsibility.
She’s crying outside now. I don’t dare bring her in as my current dog will be furious - as well as my parents - but it’s picking at my heartstrings.
My parents are going to be …surprised…tomorrow when they get up and look at the backyard. This is not going to be pleasant.
