  • The Boss's Wife

I have read a lot of horror stories about bad situations involving the Boss's Wife, and I feel for the people who post them and who have to deal with them. This, however, will NOT be one of those posts!

I have said many times how much I love my job at The Bar, and if any of you are sick of hearing about it, you may want to go find another thread to read....this will only get you more nauseated. It is, however, a really cool story!

Small background: The Boss's Wife is also the Owner's Daughter. She does not technically work at The Bar, but is in from time to time, and everyone knows her. She is an absolute doll. So much so that a while back a coworker, while off work, was very drunk and was blatantly hitting on BW, and saying things to her that one should never say to the boss's wife. In most places, he would have been unemployed before he even came to the next day. BW laughed it off, and the coworker was not fired, though of course we all gave him shit for it, including the Boss. (Coworker had no memory of it.) A few days after the incident in question, I made a crack to BW about it. Her response to me was short and simple: "Fuck off and die." And she laughed. And I laughed. THAT is pretty damn cool.

So last night I was upstairs on the roof deck, and one of my coworkers in the downstairs dining room had a very large, very rowdy party of stereotypical drunk frat boy types. Loud, boisterous, obnoxious. No big deal. But then they decided it would be a hoot if one of them took a running start and took a dive down the table, in the style of the guy in the Western movie being thrown down the bar face first. Food, drinks, and dishes went flying everywhere. Shockingly, only a couple broke.

Now, BW had been in the bar area, drinking. And a few of the guys with this party had been in the bar from time to time, flirting blatantly, shamelessly, and very unsuccessfully with her and her friends. When she heard the crash, which was so loud we heard it UPSTAIRS, she came over to see what was going on.

I know in a lot of places restaurant management might scold the party, or tell them to behave, or try to smooth things over. And that sucks for the server in question. But, as I said, I LOVE my job.

Boss's Wife immediately told the group that this was utter bullshit, and it was time for them to, and I quote, "Get the fuck out of my bar!" But not before she tacked on some money to their bill for breakage. And of course a gratuity. AND, to top that off, when the guys went to pay the bill, with said gratuity, she shamed them into tipping even more to the server, saying "You're ONLY going to give her 20%? Are you out of your minds? After what you just did?" They paid, they tipped, they tipped more, and they got the fuck out of her bar.

I love my job. I love my Boss. I love the Owner. I love BW. And I especially love the fact that I have never been on her bad side.

That's the funniest part. See, technically speaking, BW does not even work at The Bar!

But, of course, being the Owner's daughter and the Boss's wife, if she says something, it gets done. Luckily, as this story so clearly illustrates, she is absolutely cool and just full of win!
