  • no! not another TV addiction!

Sigh. For about 3 of the past 6 weeks, I was house-sitting for various friends. All had cable. Usually I keep it on Discovery Channel (or Project Runway, if it's on), but this time...

...I discovered cooking shows. *sigh* I'm not fond of the ones that just demonstrate the stuff, but the competitions?

    Yeah...I've watched 2 1/2 seasons of Hell's Kitchen in 2 days.

    Help!

eta: It does NOT help my addiction that I find Chef Ramsay to be freaking HOT.

That show is freakin' awesome!!! I've been watching it since day one and have yet to miss an episode. Gordon Ramsay is the best.

You might also want to watch Kitchen Nightmares. He's pretty good on there too, but no where near as much yelling.
If you don't like my attitude, talk to the manager!!! Oh, wait, that would be me!!

Yes, I'm the manager. I'm also known as "the brick wall".

I like him better on Kitchen Nightmares.
You get to see a more human, caring side to him.

      He's really great.
He loves good food. He takes great pride in what he serves. He expects the same from others.

I have eaten in some crap restaurants.
Everybody and his uncle thinks it's the dream job to just open a restaurant.
      It takes hard work.
      You can't cut corners.
The bottom line is, your food has to be good or people will not come back.

Gordon Ramsay tries to hammer that message home on every show.
On Hell's Kitchen, he's hard on the contestants because, to be honest, many of them shouldn't even be there.
I think he knows from the start who is going to come out on top, just by watching them work on their team.

The swearing and shouting does get to me a bit because of all the bleeping, and I do wonder at times how much is a bit of a setup for the cameras, and to play out the drama, but it's still a really great show.
Too tired of living and too tired to end it. What a conundrum.

I love Hell's Kitchen. I watch it with my dad and I watch it with my girlfriend. Great, phenomenal, addicting show. I can't cook so I usually end up asking the girlfriend what is whatever kind of food they're talking about. It's helpful she likes to cook.

I did like what I saw of Kitchen Nightmares, but honestly, I can see that side of him on HK, too. Maybe it's because he reminds me of some of my tougher art profs. It truly amazes me how some contestants' egos will blind them to the damage they're doing--it can take a hell of a lot of shouting to break through that!

Watching the show is definitely inspiring me to learn to cook well!

Oh, definitely, but not to the same degree.

I remember how he was with Julia, the Waffle House cook.
            He saw her potential.

Then there was the girl who burned her hand so badly and had to leave.

There was the really large guy from a couple of seasons back (not Robert) who ended up with health issues.

Last season, there was the girl who slipped and sprained her ankle in the very first episode.

(I am terrible with names and didn't feel like googling. )

He was really very kind and caring with all of them, and it seemed that he was really upset that their injuries/illnesses forced them to leave.

When you see him with the winners of the team competitions, he seems like a really fun guy.

I just saw that episode--i cried when he told her to keep her jacket!! (Her name is Ji.)

The yelling and shouting seems to be a bit of a persona, to seperate the wheat from the chaff, as it were. When you watch him interact with him own people, like sous chef Scott (whom I also like a lot), he's not like that.

I think some of the contestants actually need to be broken a little, to realize that they are not nearly as good as they could be, to wake them up. A lot of them seem to take it too personally (especially Jen from Season 4!), claiming that he doesn't like their personality, or their strength, or this that and the other thing. Only the people who can own up to their mistakes and fix them end up moving on.
