This is the pattern that I'm using. We're making a viking apron dress to go over the top of that, so then that way, when Gumeracha is over, I can take off the apron dress and wear the dress by itself for other occasions.
We both figured that it'd be a bit more flexible than me making a tunic that I'll most likely use only once, as opposed to two dresses that I can wear for a while (I can convert the apron dress too-just add a belt )
I like this site. Pre-made and fairly authentic-looking. Also, this.
the womans athenian gown is a piece of shite in the museum replicas site. Also dont buy the Isolde, it is also shite. Renn faire crap.
Definitely stick to Thora Sharptooth's site on viking garb She has serious time in researching her information.
EVE Online: 99% of the time you sit around waiting for something to happen, but that 1% of action is what hooks people like crack, you don't get interviewed by the BBC for a WoW raid.
EQ, that dress is great. That might even be an option, but I'll run it past him today
That dress is only an option if you want to look vaguely tudorish.

That isnt how you make an apron ..... read Thora's page. There is no way to make a proper apron into another dress.

The way the guys at NVG do it is a little different. And some of the other pictures I've seen use a tube dress with straps attached, which I think is what my boyfriend had in mind. (so it looks a little more like a pinafore, but made from thicker material and just simply goes over the bust and hangs) To convert it into an overall dress (or something similar), I can always just chuck a t-shirt underneath it and add a belt.
again, this is all speculation.
I had another talk with him last night. He ran the dress idea I had past the guys at NVG. They didn't mind it, since it'll be my first time and I'm not expected to go 100% viking. The training officer for his group and his wife also gave a proposal to us-since I have little to no experience with a sewing machine, the TO's wife offered to teach me how to use one, or to even make my dress for me. They're also going to run some ideas past me on proper costumes for middle class foreign women.
I'm probably not going to join NVG full-time, since I'm studying, but I can still accompany him to events and such as his lady.
