I've been thinking about getting all our cast iron properly seasoned, but I don't really know where to start. Anyone know a website or something?

Well, I don't know about websites but it really isn't all that difficult.

      1. Clean it well (you can use soap and water at this point) then dry it out (popping it into a hot oven would work best ) and scrub any rust off.

      2. Wipe it down really well with lard or bacon grease

      3. Put in oven and bake at 250-350F for 2-3 hours.

Repeat steps 2 & 3 until you have a nice, dark finish. Also, periodically you'll need to re-season so again, just steps 2 & 3 until you get the finish back.

This past summer, though, my dad just put ours on the grill for an hour each time and that seemed to work really nicely too.

Is there something you can use besides Lard or bacon grease?
Im' just wondering cuz i'm moving into a place with my girlfriend in a few months and I want to get a nice good set of pots/pans etc.

so anyways as i didn't KNOW about not cleaning cast iron with soap/water until well... reading this post I"m just wondering if there's something i can use besides lard/bacon grease.... As I dont keep a ready supply of lard around lol

Skeppshult says cooking oil, and they use vegetable oil before the pan leave the factory. Use my link and then press school in the menu at the top, at the bottom of the school page are things to do if the pan rust or get grey.
I usually bake pancakes if the pan need it, the first two may burn but then the pan is fine again .

We've always used cooking oil. One website I looked at said that it would give a sticky finish and not work as well but I've never noticed a problem...
