I just did something really bad.....

Something I knew I wouldn't do again and it's made me join the dark side.

I just volunteered to be a board member of my HOA.

Under two conditions:

1) The person who has been the president (unelected) for many years is gone (which is done)

2) The "manager" is gone - being worked on. I'm going to call one we used to have but was fired because she wouldn't be a puppet to the manager.

I had pretty much given up since the two members I get along with have been promising that the president will be out ASAP and the fact that they "never received' my application to be a board member over the past 4 elections. One of them called me the other day and told me that the president is being kicked out - which made joining extremely tempting. Since he told me that they're getting rid of the property manager, then that is two extremely good moves for the community.

I'm not even official yet and we've fired the manager, and the attoerney and accountant are next. We may go with a company that'll do the shole shebang in one shot - for $500-$600 a month less.

We're trying to get a quote from someone who used to do it before, too.

Good for you. It may seem bad, but really it's just "unappreciated".

That is how you'll feel as the community probably won't care what you do as long as rates don't go up
