  • My new change

(I reallly don't want to start a debate)

Ok, background....all through out high school and college I was vegetarian.....and then went back to omni....then recently switched to pesca...but today the boy and I went to a great mexican place where almost all the options can be veggie...the owner came out and asked me if I was veg, I said "yes," even though it was a lie....and she told me she was veg...and I don't know....something snapped....this is what I wanna be again.

So I'm gonna do it.....going back to being a dirty, smelly, granola munchin, hemp wearin' veggie hippie.

    and I am so happy.

(of course, when I told my bf this, I said I will now cook for myself. No worries)
(and, I have nothing against omnivores....I am the first one I know to try to make people eat bison burger and gator bites!! )

No judgement here. When you were omni you could say, "Well, I had a lot of years as a veg. That makes up for it." After my year is up, I may go pescatarian. Dunno. It's a journey.

Hey, if you can do it, more power to ya'!

I'm too picky an eater to be a vegetarian. I would be seriously lacking some nutrients if I didn't eat any meat. (Though I'm probably lacking some things anyway, since I don't have the best eating habits to begin with. I'm working on that, though...slowly...sorta...)

The few things I will miss will be shrimp, salmon, fried clams, and sushi.

        Shrimp....oh well

Salmon...I'm giving away what is left (my dad caught a mess of 'em last year...terrible to let them go to waste....Alaskan Salmon is great)

Fried clams....well, I cut back on fried foods for weight loss anyways

        Sushi...there are veggie options.

        I will be fine

I prefer veggie sushi. Out here in the middle of the country I'm....skeptical....about uncooked fish product. A friend of mine just had a few of us over for some bitchin' takoyaki....Octopus balls!!! It was awesome.

I could go partial-veg pretty easy, but I'd be too concerned about a lack of protein. I'm just not a huge fan of soy protein products...and they can be pretty pricey.

If it makes you happy then gratz! Go for it.

There are so many kinds of vegetarianism now that I can't keep up. And my job (basically) is cooking for vegetarians/vegans/etc. I had to Google "pescatarian"- it was a new one on me. Although, I'm sure I'll run into it sooner or later.

Ahem ... I'm making myself hungry.

Good luck to you! Enjoy being a veg again.

Becoming veg has prompted me to eat healthier; I had atrocious habits. I do spend a lot of time cooking now. Still eat some junk and lost several inches anyway. My nails grow without breaking now and all my pants are loose. I have to interject that too much soy isn't good, and all kinds of things have protein. A serving of regular old macaroni (plain) has 7 grams. The special "smart pasta" has 9. I get about 40 to 50 grams on a day without soy foods, but that would be less if I were vegan. The government says I need 65 or more, but I don't have kwashiorkor yet.

Yeah, I think it's new to other people, too.My friend calls herself vegetarian, but eats fish. Um, last time I checked, a fish isn't a vegetable.

Several years ago, the folks at work decided to have a pot luck for lunch one day. Somebody brought in this really interesting looking guacamole... It was a bit brighter green than what I was used to, and I thought it was maybe a different variety of avacado. I took about a teaspoon full, popped it into my mouth, and......it wasn't guacamole! That was my first, and ONLY, experience with wasabi! Thank goodness it was a very fast burn!

Last night on Amazing Race on TV, one of the Roadblocks was to eat a "wasabi bomb" in less than 2 minutes. Basically, it was about a cup of rice, and about a half cup of wasabi all rolled up in some seaweed. I don't think I could have done it, myself.
Everything will be ok in the end. If it's not ok, it's not the end.

Yeah, I actually guilty for callin' myself a vegetarian, with out actually being one....so that is part of the switch

                      Top 7 Types of Vegetarians

                      * vegan definition

“I’m a level 5 vegan—I don’t eat anything that casts a shadow.” –Character on The Simpsons

People often point to some food item and ask me, “Can you eat this?” My answer is always “Sure, I can eat whatever I want.” I choose not to eat certain things. When deciding what type of vegetarian you want to be, think about what you want to include or avoid. You don’t need to fit into one of these categories, but understanding them will help you think about your short-term and long-term goals.

                      1. Pescatarian (also spelled pescetarian)
The word “pescatarian” is occasionally used to describe those who abstain from eating all meat and animal flesh with the exception of fish. Although the word is not commonly used, more and more people are adopting this kind of diet, usually for health reasons or as a stepping stone to a fully vegetarian diet.

                      2. Flexitarian/Semi-vegetarian
You don’t have to be vegetarian to love vegetarian food! “Flexitarian” is a term recently coined to describe those who eat a mostly vegetarian diet, but occasionally eat meat.

                      3. Vegetarian (Lacto-ovo- vegetarian)
When most people think of vegetarians, they think of lacto-ovo-vegetarians. People who do not eat beef, pork, poultry, fish, shellfish or animal flesh of any kind, but do eat eggs and dairy products are lacto-ovo vegetarians (“lacto” comes from the Latin for milk, and “ovo” for egg).

Lacto-vegetarian is used to describe a vegetarian who does not eat eggs, but does eat dairy products.

Ovo-vegetarian refers to people who do not eat meat or dairy products but do eat eggs.

                      4. Vegan
Vegans do not eat meat of any kind and also do not eat eggs, dairy products, or processed foods containing these or other animal-derived ingredients such as gelatin. Many vegans also refrain from eating foods that are made using animal products that may not contain animal products in the finished process, such as sugar and some wines. There is some debate as to whether certain foods, such as honey, fit into a vegan diet.

                      5. Raw vegan/Raw food diet
A raw vegan diet consists of unprocessed vegan foods that have not been heated above 115 degrees Fahrenheit (46 degrees Celsius). “Raw foodists” believe that foods cooked above this temperature have lost a significant amount of their nutritional value and are harmful to the body.

                      6. Macrobiotic
The macrobiotic diet, revered by some for its healthy and healing qualities, includes unprocessed vegan foods, such as whole grains, fruits and vegetables, and allows the occasional consumption of fish. Sugar and refined oils are avoided. Perhaps the most unique qualifier of the macrobiotic diet is its emphasis on the consumption of Asian vegetables, such as daikon, and sea vegetables, such as seaweed.
