  • Target employees--TO ME!

I bought a shoe rack from Target today. It's little metal pipes that snap into a plastic frame, and then you set your shoes onto the pipes.

I got it put together, started putting shoes on it--and the damn thing collapsed.

Put it back together, started putting shoes on it again--same thing. The thing just isn't sturdy.

I took it apart, put all the pieces back in the box, sealed it, and would like to return it with the receipt.

The return policy on the back of the receipt says:

All returns & exchanges must be new, unused, and have original packaging and accessories. Some items cannot be returned if opened.

Since the item was opened and technically used, am I not going to be able to return it even if I include all the pieces? Will they open it up and check if I take it back?

Sorry if this sounds dumb, but I'd like to recoup the $30 I spent on it if I can and I'm putting in more of an effort to abide by the return policy than the people who complain about it. If it turns out I won't be able to return it, I guess I'll just have to chuck it or give it to Goodwill or something.

If you pack it back up properly you should be fine. I bought a shower shelf thing at Target that didn't fit properly in my tub, so I packed it back up so it looked like it did when I bought it, and I had no problem returning.

I bought a pantry from them, it was missing a ton of pieces, they gave me no issues when called, they asked if I wanted to return it, I told them I just wanted the pieces and didn't want to wait the 3 weeks for the manufacturer to mail them. I went in, they looked up my receipt (some day I'll remember to save them ), opened a box and gave me the parts.

I packed it as best as I could. The box is bulging a little bit. Also, it had a glue seal and I'll have to tape it up, which would give it away as being used. Or maybe not.

Well, I suppose you could tell them the truth that it keeps falling apart....they should take it back if it's defective.

You should have no problem; it's defective. That unopened/unused disclaimer is for DVDs, CDs, bikes. Everything else is returnable if pretty much intact. I've worked customer service there before.

I'd say call them first "I just bought this shoe rack from you guys. But it is very unstable and it's not going to work." or something like that. Maybe ask if you could do a trade? I don't think it will be a problem, since you didn't really use it, you COULDN'T use it.

I don't know you guys. I bet Target has a lot of problems with people buying shoe racks and using them to impress a girl, then returning them afterwards.

                    Slight off topic:

Irv, you made me conjure an image of Thorin Oakenshield looking for baggages, packages, parcels, and paraphernalia at a Target and getting frustrated.

                    ...........sorry.
I have a...thing. Wanna see it?

Irv, Your fine. what the receipt notice is talking about is DVDs, CDS and Video and computer games and stuff prone to be "rented" by SC's.

Aaaaaaannnndddd...Target took it back no questions asked.

Then, whilst doing other shopping, I bought a polo shirt at Express, where the checkout chick chatted me up. She said my polo shirt looked good on me.

I can't help it if I got it going on.
