  • I feel so guilty.

So, I may be getting my old job back at the family plumbing and appliance business.. The environment there has changed a lot, since the split where my mom and I both quit and they were forced to hire other help, all of us have made realizations and changes to better the place, and my mom works there again.
However, it's bittersweet, the news that I may get my job back, because there is already a lady there, we'll call her Yvette, doing my job.
However, she has apparently been doing so incredibly badly that my grandmother has said that if she doesn't get her act together by the end of September she will be fired, and I will get my job back.
I really can't help but feel bad because Yvette is such a NICE woman, and friendly, but she apparently can't even do the simplest job (Filing) properly, as my mother keeps finding things like Mr White stuck in with the C's, and the paperwork for Mrs. Campbell in the folder with Mr. Johnson's stuff. She also is apparently filling out the invoices wrong, causing a lot of later confusion with the technicians and customers.
Should I feel bad, because I am in all likelihood going to be taking her job? I'm worried that maybe my grandma is being less patient with her than she would be if she wasn't aware that I needed a job, and was willing to go back to work there.

I wouldn't look at it so much as "taking" her job. Sounds like they're going to have to replace her, no matter what. If not you, someone else. It's sad for her but if she can't get her act together she's gonna go, either way.

Yeah, that's kind of...her fault. Not yours. They need someone there that can *do* the job, and evidently she cannot. Don't feel bad.

nice doesn't equal competent, if you could fire a nice person then a lot of jobs wouldn't get done.

Me: I expect competence from my coworkers.
