  • Well, this turned out to be a crappy day.

My day STARTED out pretty well, and went downhill this afternoon when I found out a friend of mine had an ectopic pregnancy.

She's okay. She started getting concerned early last week because she was bleeding irregularly, which is very very strange for her, so she called her dr. They said she could be pregnant, so she took a home pregnancy test, and it came back positive. So she went to see her dr. and they determined she was either having a miscarriage or an ectopic pregnancy (where the fetus is growing in the fallopian tube.) But I guess they couldn't tell, so they sent her home (that seemed strange to me) and told her to come back if she had any sharp abdominal pains. Sure enough, that night she had a very sharp pain in her side, like someone was stabbing her, so she went to the ER, and early the next morning she went into surgery.

She came through it pretty well. They were able to do it laparoscopically so the incisions are much smaller than if they had to open her up all the way, and she should be able to recover fairly quickly. They did have to tie off her one fallopian tube, but the other one is fine and she still has a good chance of getting pregnant naturally (her and her husband have been trying for a while now, this was to be their first time getting pregnant.)

Then, a couple hours later, my husband and I were going to the airport. I was driving because he has a plane to catch tomorrow and I've never driven to the airport down here, so I was getting a feel for the way there, and we got in an accident. We were on a major interstate down here with 5 lanes on our side. I was in the second-to-right most lane and needed to go to the right-most lane to take our exit. I checked my mirrors and glanced behind me, everything looked clear. So I turned my signal on and started going right and BAM! Some guy was right on top of me and we side-swiped each other.

Fortunately, we're all okay. Very fortunate, when you think about it, considering I was going around 60mph and he was going at least 10 or 15 mph faster than me. We pulled off the interstate and into a parking lot and called the cops and exchanged information. We were all pretty courteous about it, nobody got angry or started shouting or getting sue-happy. The damage isn't terrible. Both of us had mirrors nearly knocked off (his driver side, our passenger side) and our little triangular window on the passenger side got smashed in, so there was glass everywhere, but my husband and I didn't get cut (that we've found yet, anyway.)

My husband is convinced it was the other guy's fault. Like I said, I was trying to merge right, and I looked and didn't see anyone (in my mirrors, or when I glanced over my shoulder) and my husband didn't see him either, and he was helping me watch. And by the time I actually hit him, he was parallel with us, so he had to have been going pretty fast (60mp was the speed limit, which is what I was going.) Hopefully the repairs won't be too bad.

All in all, it could've been a worse day, but it could've been better too, especially for the last day of our weekend.

*sends cookies and hugs* At least that was all of the damage done was to the car.

Hope your friend is doing well.
Eh, one day I'll have something useful here. Until then, have a cookie or two.

Car windows are made from safety glass, which breaks into chunks rather than shards, so people don't get cut as badly during car crashes. My little sister was in a car crash a few years ago (don't worry, nobody got seriously hurt, even though her friend's car was totalled) and got showered in glass, and she only had a few small scratches that barely broke the skin.

Anyway, I'm glad you and your husband are all right, and I hope that your friend recovers from her surgery quickly and that her next pregnancy goes better.

Thanks guys. I feel a lot better today than I did yesterday. I was really shook up and upset and ended up with a migraine, bleh. I did end up baking homemade cookies, though, because cooking calms me down and cookies are a great comfort food. *shares with everyone*
