  • In short, I hate paying bills. (a quick rant)

When I got home from work last night, Roommate Xarx hands me my mail. It's weird mail, it says "S.E.D. Medical Laboratories" on it so I think; "Insurance card? Already?" I had signed up for health insurance through work. Nope.

It's a freaking bill! And Holy Smokes! There's another one! It, too, is a freaking bill!!

Wait, wait, I thought I paid all this at the hospital?! I recently went in for my yearly girly exam and girly prescription. First time in ABQ since the last one (last September, which is how I met Lupo, I came back with a bad result) was in Houston, TX. So I declare that I'll call them in the morning to find out what's going on.

    It's now morning.

So I called the phone number listed for "Billing Questions" and get a some lady. She was very much a automatron until I finished giving her my "account number", name and birth date. Then she magically turned into a human being and was very nice.

Extra tests had been done to "rule out something" but she didn't know what -- Probably the same thing that came back as bad in my last test last year.

It appears that they are billing ME, not the hospital, for the labs as well. I was supposed to be told all this at the hospital and was not. Well, maybe I was. We all know how bad my memory is. (which is something I'm really really worried about)

It's something that I can't avoid and really can't wait so I guess I'll be paying it.

Think happy thoughts Evil Queen. Think "Tax write off" Evil Queen.

Well, look at it this way. At least nothing (else) bad was found, and as a bonus, it's a small price to pay to meet the wonder that is ME!

Seriously, it's sucky on everyone's part for not keeping you informed, but yeah...

Which reminds me, I need to figure out how to pay off what's left of a medical bill of mine i wasn't told I'd be paying almost $90 for, either.

    Insurance covers it, my ass...

Well, luckily the insurance (when it kicks in) will not cost me anything. My prescription will be $3 a month instead of $62 ($69? sixty-something). And the next exam will have a co-pay of about $5 (I fall into the lowest income bracket that's still full time). Boy, I'm sure looking forward to that.

Of course, for some weird reason, I'm looking forward to filing my taxes. Dunno why.

EQ, you are now a home-owner, correct? Keep ALL of your medical receipts, no matter how small. OTC stuff like bandaids and aspirin don't count, regrettably, unless you're like me and had to get special stuff for special reasons. It adds up a lot faster than you would believe, and along with mortgage interest, it can take a big chunk off your taxes. I use Turbo Tax and let it figure out the best deductions for us (itemized vs standard). Last year we got back every penny we had paid in--close to $6K.
Everything will be ok in the end. If it's not ok, it's not the end.

Yes, I'm a home owner now and qualify for a lot of tax rebates (I bought a new, energy efficent dryer and I'm about to buy a new washer and fridge).

I used Turbo Tax last year too, and plan on using it every year.
