  • Yay! New car at last!

For the past four years now, I have shunned owning a car. At first, it was because my old, beloved Tracker broke down, and I lacked the funds to resurrect it (Not minor repairs... it was a standard, and the 4th gear was MISSING). Then, it was simply more convenient NOT to own a car, as public transit was faster, easier, and vastly cheaper.

However, I now have a job which causes me to borrow my roommate's van an anomalous number of times just to go to work. Taking the bus turns a 15 minute drive into an hour and 45 minute transit ordeal, and it really isn't worth it. I have the financial stability necessary, so... I bit the bullet, and bought a car.

Now, the buying experience was remarkably pleasant. The Salesman was impressed with my credit rating, and told me I could basically buy any car on the lot. However, I had specific requirements: Fuel efficiency (It was to be an in-town commuter car, after all), reasonable monthly payments, and decent headroom (I'm 6'1", which shouldn't be a big deal, but half the cars I drive seem to demand I fold myself into an accordion shape to fit into them)

Me and my roommate (They assumed she was my girlfriend/wife, which, honestly, was part of my plan. I figured a couple would earn more respect from them than a single male) test drove a nice Ford Fusion, which was fully loaded, and really had everything I was looking for. After the test drive, I honestly thought it would be the one.

Then, there was one more car we test drove. A little Volkswagon Golf, which revealed to me I had one more, hidden requirement.

    I needed YELLOW

It was a basic Volkswagon Golf, but it ran like a top, was newer, had more warranty left, and it was a Volkswagon, which i inherently trust to be reliable more than Fords. To be honest, I prefer basic cars, as there's less to go expensively wrong on them. And it had a nice stereo, lots of room, and was a hatchback. All win.

And it was so utterly unique and adorable I couldn't say no.

    Here's some pics:

I'm gonna stick a big Autobot decal in that back window and call him 'Bumblejumper'

(And yes, I'm male, no, I'm not gay. I'm just an immense nerd.)

I thought the gay thing only applied to Beetles. Is it all Volkswagens, then?

Anyway, it's a good-looking car, and I hope the two of you are together for many years to come.
Now the trouble about trying to make yourself stupider than you really are is that you very often succeed.

Congrats! Buying a new vehicle is one of the most exciting times in your life (typically) and that little thing will run forever assuming you do your regular maintenance

        YAY!!! The car looks great!

I'm still hunting for a new car. I'm currently driving my dad's '01 Lightning... I'm definitely not heart broken by this. This weekend I'm going to be looking at vehicles and hopefully making a decision.
When will the fantasy end? When will the heaven begin?
