I'm currently finishing off a bottle of a particularly delicious Loire Valley Sauvignon Blanc. Bear with me as I attempt to taste it correctly 
Touraine appellation, from Francois Chidaine. A truly inspired winemaker.
It's a particularly delicate white, a wonderful change from the lush, overripe, intensely fruity Sauvignons I was drinking this summer. Rather than being an overload of citrus flavour with the occasional grassy undertone, this one is a beautifully balanced wine, with a strong acid backbone and a pear drop note that leads into a fresh-mown hay finish.
The fruit notes are primarily key lime and candied grapefruit rind, with a touch of lemon - more like a tart lemon candy or bottled lemon juice than fresh lemon, though that could be that this has been open for hours now, and the flavours have started to go a bit artificial with oxidation.
I've been looking for a wine like this all summer, since I had an unnamed Touraine at a local French bistro that just blew me away with its grassiness.
Definitely a 4-star wine. I need to make sure I keep a case of this around next year, and plan to offer it at my holiday party in December.
