    ....I miss retail work?

Im a nurse right now and have been in the healthcare field for over 7 years now. But all through high school I held only retail jobs. They included : Sears sales assoc, Great American Cookie associate (FAVORITE JOB EVER!), and also a job @ a sunglass kiosk in the middle of the mall. Also my husbands Dad owned a small store and I would help on occasion. I rarely had an SC than I couldn't handle, or had management that let me reign free b/c they knew I could handle things and be reasonable.

My DREAM job would be to work in a bookstore that also sells coffee. I wouldnt be in it for the money, though extra would help ( i wouldnt quit my job now of course, but maybe in my spare time....). I dont know.

Is it odd that I miss being behind a register and helping people that way?!

    Not at all.

Heck, I'm in college, and I miss retail work, I'm trying to find a retail PT job right now. Yeah, some of the customers do suck, but there are others who make it worthwhile.

Then again, I've always been more of a worker than a thinker, so the fact that it didn't require a BS didn't hurt, either.

Nah. And as far as retail goes, I have a hard time imagining ever working in non-bookstore retail again...
(I would not want to work in the cafe, though. I managed to work in a cafe store for 2 years without ever being cafe trained . I could ring people up, and did occasionally when there was a long line and someone was on break, but the only thing I could get you was a soda or a plain drip coffee, or something from the bakecase as long as it didn't require any preparation other than putting it on a plate...I'm kinda proud of that.)

I really miss working in restaurants. I used to work in the kitchens and loved being the first there to set up in the mornings.

It's probably why most of my friends are in the industry. I get to live my life vacariously through them.

A new place with a celebrity chef recently opened in the location that shut down while I was on vacation last year (the bastards). I've already introduced myself to the new staff - and to the chef - and I'm already partying with them - in and out of the restaurant.

Some of my friends from the old restaurant came in to check it out and are working there now! Just like old times!

One of these days I'll be able to afford to go back into the industry - can't afford it at all right now, though! But one day...

I've been contemplating looking for a part-time job for the holidays...I don't know where I'd want to look, though. I can't work in the B&N stores, and I imagine they wouldn't like it much if I went to work at Borders.... I've worked in both food and clothes and I don't really want to do that again, though. I'd also like someplace where I'd meet different kinds of people (as opposed to something like women's clothes or something where the employees/customers tend to be all the same demographic).

Edit: My goal is to get out of the house. Extra cash would be nice, but it's not a necessity.

i loooove retail work. i quickly realized that going to school would be pointless for me, (college just isn't my thing) so i figured that i can just keep moving up to manager, then dm...then whatever. or open my own place, which would be cool.
retail's awesome. it's better than staring at a blank wall for hours a day (no offense to those that enjoy it...but i did it for 2 years and it's *not* for me).
lol and teaching (my original plan) would've probably landed me in jail for something creative.

I miss working at the Game Store. Someday, when I grow up, I want to start my own Game Store.

Or I'd work in a bookstore. But only part-time, and I'd be the designated shelf reader/shelf re-arranger. I could do that all day!

The only reason I miss retail is my coworkers. They made some truly miserable days bearable. I don't think I could ever go back though.
