A friend of ours is having a birthday dinner tonight at Red Robin. My husband and I have never been to one before -- what's their food like? I'm mostly wondering if the burgers really are as good as they hype, or if I'd be safer with a chicken sandwich or a salad.

I haven't been to a Red Robin in a while, but as I recall, their burgers are pretty kickin', at least for a chain. I think (but am not certain) that the day after my friend's wedding in Salt Lake City, we all gathered at a Red Robin for a last lunch together.
I do know for certain that I used to frequent a particular Red Robin in Arizona, and even though I had no ID and was under 21, often got served there purely due to my attitude.

Everywhere I've been has had really good burgers and the potato soup is de-lish! I had one of their new burgers last I was there in august, can't remember the name but it was one of the best burgers I've ever had. and their very berry raspberry limeade is soooooo good, I've been trying to recreate it at home =-)It's not that I'm lazy, it's that I just don't care. -Office space

I have been to Red Robin twice and didn't like it either time.
Everyone else at the table raved about how wonderful everything tasted except for me and the BF we thought everything was very greasy and salty. I only ate 3 bites of my burger, it tasted no different to a McDonalds burger.
I will say though that in general I am not a burger fan, I would only ever choose to eat a burger if there was NOTHING else to eat.I wasnt put on this earth to make you feel like a man ~ Mary Bertone

I've been there once...I forget the name of the burger (and I don't see it on the menu when I just looked) but it had tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese...sort of a chicken parm sandwich but with a burger. It was pretty good...I'm picky though so I wouldn't even eat most of the concoctions they have there.I don't go in for ancient wisdom

Well, we just got back from dinner. It was pretty good! We got a queso dip that was really good, aside from the fact that the chips were kinda stale (we told the waiter, and he brought us fresh, really hot chips that were much better.) Three of the four of us got burgers and the other person got the French dip sandwich. Everything was pretty good, although we all agreed we've had better burgers/sandwiches elsewhere. And for cheaper. But it wasn't a bad meal. I also had the berry limeade that someone mentioned earlier, and that was tasty.

We got a Red Robin a year or two ago, and it's been a big hit.
I really like their big chicken sandwich.
I do think they are slightly overpriced, but that's just because before we got Red Robin, we were used to the typical small town burger joints where you can get a burger and fries for less than $10.You really need to see a neurologist. - Wagegoth

One opened up near me a few months ago, been there three times. It is overpriced but it's really worth the price. I think anyways. The servers that I got all three times were nice and one was understanding when a few people in my group were running late for a dinner gathering outside of work.Eh, one day I'll have something useful here. Until then, have a cookie or two.

I've always liked RR myself. I always get the Banzai Burger (terryaki sauce and Pineapple).
We used to hit the one in Boulder on a regular basis after our LARP games on the weekend because not only could we get pitchers of tea and water (great after long days in the August sun) but bottomless fry's as well.

Like any chain, they tend to be hit or miss. We've got two near me, and one is usually good (both service and quality) and one isn't. A bit pricey, especially for the burgers, but I rarely get a burger there.
Personally, Clam chowder, Bruschetta Chicken Burger, and garlic fries are my default. Yum! (Of course, I consider garlic to be a food group, not a seasoning...)"If your day is filled with firefighting, you need to start taking the matches away from the toddlers…” - HM
