Depending on the area you move your Job field is pretty recession proof.
You have hospitals, nursing homes, full time in home care, and if you can tolerate the uncertainty of a near random schedule agencies.

My sister just left SW florida where she had been an LPN for various county jails and a state prison most of her career. She also worked at at least one of each of the other above places too, though the in home care was when she was a CNA.

If your S.O. is in another field he may be more hard pressed to find work however.

But not totally recession proof. I know through friends that right now in Phoenix is a bad time to be an unemployed nurse, as there are currently a lot more nurses looking for jobs than there are nursing jobs available. (I know the discussion is about Florida, but just saying that nursing is not always as recession proof as a lot of people seem to think.)

I agree. I feel bad for some people I graduated with in May that STILL can not find jobs. Its like that everywhere though.

My move wouldnt be for a loong while. Hopefully long enough that this economy gets the kick in the ass it badly needs. And, I wouldnt leave my current place without a job to go to.

The humidity scares me.....ugh. I was there this past August and even in the evening it was bad. Lol. Not my ideal situation, but im willing to go where my hubby wants to go to school, if im able to get a job and afford to keep up the family.

Sorry for not being more clear.
When I said "depending on the area" I only meant it for Florida.

Ressession proof is probably a poor choice of words anyway.
Stupid media catch phrase that seems to have stuck to my vocabulary.

Hell, I know at least one nurse in Phoenix who is not a recent graduate, but actually has a few years of nursing (RN) under her belt, and she has been looking for a job for four months! She's finding temp stuff here and there, but the permanent job still eludes her.

As I said, Phoenix is not a good place right now to be looking for a job, nurse or otherwise.

Really? I've seen some fun times in Tampa, and Ybor City is legendary. Had a blast in Clearwater Beach, too. And I can speak rather highly of the FMB nightlife from recent personal experience. Can't comment on Naples, though, or much of the rest of the Gulf Coast. And no, it isn't Miami....but let's face it, very often, not being Miami is a positive!
Naples has ZERO nightlife (I oughtta know ). Ft Myers only has it if you're looking for trashy and low class. Tampa and the like are more Central FL.

I lived in Central florida from 98-2000, and I hated every minute of it. My parents still live in Ocala, and my oldest son goes to UCF, so I'm still kinda tied there, unfortunately.

I don't mind visiting, but I didn't like it on a permanent basis.

Then again, I'm 10 years older now, so maybe I wouldn't detest it like I did back then. It was too slow and boring for me back then, but now I'm slow and boring too.

Good luck and keep us posted!

I can't really comment, as every bit of night life I've enjoyed in the FM area has actually been in Ft. Myers Beach, not Ft. Myers proper.

That being said, sometimes trashy and low class can be quite fun and entertaining. And I say that without irony or sarcasm, but with complete sincerity.

It depends who you ask. Many consider it Central, many consider it South. I know that the people who run and promote the area refer to it as South Florida, and the University of South Florida is in Tampa, whereas the University of Central Florida is in Orlando. Having spent time in the Tampa, Orlando, and Lakeland areas, I do consider Tampa/Clearwater more fun and beachy (obviously) than the other two, and definitely different from them.

But to each their own. And it's still better than Miami!

I was born in Florida, and I've lived here my whole life. I live in Port St. Lucie now. I'm about 45 minutes north of West Palm Beach on the east coast. Absolutely nothing to do in PSL, there are some businesses here but it's mainly a commuter town.

Humidity? GAWD yes. Its stifling in the summer.

                    Anyway, just my opinions.
I agree with you on those points. My dad lives in PSL. The most to do there was that 45 minutes drive to the beach and the library. lol

As for the humidity, I thought I was gonna die. Luckily it rained almost every day. I can't stand intense heat (or intense cold for that matter) and being in FL in the summer was not my cup of tea.

However, it is really nice, if you like the heat and humidity.
