Goodbye Tooth #3

Over 10 years ago I had a root canal.....it wasn't done properly, and now (after years of not going to the dentist) I find I am going to lose it. THe extraction plus a fake tooth may cost me $4000. Thank the gods I am 90% done with holiday shopping.

Not so much a rant as a warning to all.....take care of your teeth!!!

Im sorry you have to go through that. I hate any kind of dental work. My tooth hurts just thinking about it.

Just got back from the dentist.
I need a root canal and for some reason I need to go to a specialist.
I might just tell them to pull it instead.

It's a good thing I'm not prone to nightmares, because if I was, I'd still be having them about tooth extractions. My teeth are disproportionately large compared to the size of my mouth, so I had to have many of my primary teeth pulled to "make room." I also had to endure I nightmarish procedure whereby 4 primary teeth were pulled so that the dentist could get at the 4 permanent teeth underneath and rip them out before they'd even started growing in! Even without those 4, there's still barely enough space for my teeth.

And don't even get me started about what a nightmare my wisdom teeth were. If you know what "boney impaction" is, then you'll know. Thankfully, I got general anesthesia for that......

Get the root canal....the dentist was telling me that is you just yank the tooth, it takes time til they can put the implant in, and your other teeth may shift, making it a bit harder to chew and might change your facial appearance.

A root canal isn't too bad....just the first dentist that did it did a piss poor job of it And yes, go to a specialist....a "regular" dentist did mine, and well.....here I am now.

Actually, they aren't supposed to let you keep pulled teeth, since it is considered hazardous materials.
Congress had to amend it a while ago so that dentist could give back baby teeth to kids.

my dad's a dentist and i've heard him saying that to lots of patients who ask .

I think it's because to have an adult tooth taken out(besides wisdom teeth, which is also an exception, so some dentist do give back) something has to be really wrong and unfixable about it.

Yah, I wasn't allowed to keep my wisdom teeth. I'll probably too loopy after the drugs to ask, and if the tooth is cracked like they expect, there won't be a tooth to keep

Cat, I'm sorry! $4000! I had a couple yanked and much other stuff done for $2300. I don't miss those teeth at all; I had too many for my very small mouth. Why is it so expensive where you live?

The implant was included in that quote, I think. I need to talk to my regular dentist and insurance to see how much I will actually have to pay.
