On September 21st I had to go to the ER for an asthma attack.

In front of me I have two different bills, for two different amounts from two different bill collectors, both claiming to be for the ER visit.

I can't reach either of the companies at the moment because the offices are closed.

Ugh, one time the state tax people said we'd gotten our taxes wrong (we had) and sent me a bill to pay the difference. Then a couple days later I got another bill with a completely different amount. I called the office and they gave me the 'correct' amount- which was completely different than the amounts on either of the bills.

The two different collectors part seems very weird though.

Call the hospital first. Find out what the correct amount is, then who they use as their collections agency. You may even be able to work directly with them to pay the bill and tell the collections agencies you took care of it w/ the hospital.(You are not required to pay the collections agencies.)
