  • ER week

    Good Grief What a week.

Sorry if this gets sloppy, just back from the ER and working on about 20 hours awake.

Yesterday, Auntie R. walked out to get the mail and slipped in the mud/slush yuck in the yard. Fell and broke the forearm/wrist and maybe some damage in the shoulder.

Also Yesterday, Mom was supposed to go to KC for her yearly allergist appointment, but with us getting the first snow this year and not wanting to play with the morning rush hour in winter mix she called and rescheduled. I've been fighting with allergy sinus crud and just didn't feel like moving so called off work and it was Mom's normal day off. Yes we live together work together ( different lots, shifts offset by 30 min) travel together.

So this morning just as I'm about to go to sleep, Mom calls into my room "Get up and call the Ambulance".

Mom has had a heart arythmia almost if not all her life, and sometimes it acts up and can feel like a heart attack. So far no heart attacks, no heart damage but we still have to do the whole hospital, testing and check ups just to be sure.

Anyway, Mom's being admitted for more testing, Aunt R. has a orthopedic surgeon's appointment for Friday, and Mom's worker comp conference has now been moved off for three months.

I think I'll see if I can pass out for a while now.

Hugs, Prayers, and good thoughts are appericiated. And virtual monster cookies to everybody

        Update

Mom will be in at least overnight, doing more bloodwork ( blech fasting for cholesterol test) and then a stress test sometime tomorrow. I am planning to go to work, pick up FMLA paperwork and let folks know what I can.

Everything should be good, just a bit stressful at the moment.

One test they might do is where they put her in an EEG vest for 24-48 hours and tell her to act normally. The idea is to figure out what is triggering the arrhythmia by catching it in action. Sometimes there's a pattern to the triggers.

Something else to consider is acid reflux. It can cause heart arrhythmia, because...um...I don't remember. I think it has something to do with a major nerve cluster near the esophagus?

My mom has a minor one, usually it's triggered by reflux.

I'm sorry to hear about your aunt. Orthopaedic surgery is never fun. Hopefully she won't need it, and can manage with PT and rest.

            Coming Home

Well Mom's on her way home just as soon as she finishes lunch.

Kia doing the vest will be a problem, Mom will go months without an episode, and most times a little deep breathing will stop it. But they are sending a monitor home with her, for 21 days. YES21 days, this is gonna be a problem.

As for Aunt R and surgery, have to wait till Friday to find out more, but from what little I've heard she pretty much shattered the bones at or just above the wrist. I hope and pray not.
