  • We Adopted a New Ferret!!!

^_^ We just happened to see her at the pet store on Sunday... she was so very sweet and wanted cuddles... so I made the grave....GRAVE mistake of holding her.

...That was that... I was hooked. So Monday we set up a play date and our two fuzzies got on pretty well with her. SO it was official. We came home monday with a new ferret.

Her name is Pandora... Pandi for short. And she is wonderful... We don't know really anything about her, she was bounced back and forth from home to home about 4 different times...so any papers she had were lost. But it's okay. Now this is her forever home and she is going to be staying here...god willing, a very long time.

....In other news! We are going to get a new apartment!! WEEEEE!!!

            Hahaha! Yep! It sure is.

We actually named her that because when we brought her home she was in a card board box... scratching and scrabbling around and the cat was FREAKED! So after a few min the Beau said "Look out kitty! It's Pandora's box!" we both laughed....and it kind of stuck...

              awwww that is so cuuuute.

You can apparaently train ferrets to use a litterbox IIRC. And there's a trick I remember reading up somewhere, although I'm not sure how it's done, where you train them to burrow under a small mat and then run along with the mat on their back....

Yep all three of ours are littler box trained. ^_^ No messes on the carpet....except when they decide to protest.... our big one, Kodo... when ever he gets mad at you will try to potty on the carpet.

It's a carpet shark! I love ferrets, and have owned a few, but I never could get any of them litter box trained. I mean, my last one would go out of his way to avoid the litter box. So, no more ferrets, until I can afford a home with a room that I don't mind them destroying.

The trick is time out and treats. If they go IN the box they get their favorite treat and LOTS of praise... even if they use it while they are in the cage not during play time.... if you see them go in the box Treats and Praise. During play time, if they try to go out of the box you gently scruff them, say no. And place them in the litter box. Then if they go you give them praise and treats. If they jump out and try to go somewhere else they get scuffed and a ten min time out in the cage while the other ferrets/pets get play and treats. It took us about a month of constant work to get them to litter box train... and even now we still have "Defiant Poos" But one thing we did find that was WONDERFUL was carpet remnants from the store. Little 2X2 squares of carpet we put in all the corners of the room and along the doors. This saves our actual carpet in case of accidents...and we can just pick them up and hose them off in the shower.
Also "Natures Miracle" makes a cleaner just for Ferrets and Ferret odor. Its really wonderful stuff, it breaks down biological messes and removes them completely. Like good enough not to show up under a black light completely.

*cough* sorry about the length... I'm just a clean freak when it comes to pets... so my rule was "They either get litter boxed trained or they can't stay"
