  • Welcome to hell!

So for those who aren't familiar, I'm Australian. Which means I'm on the other side of the equator. And it also means that I get to have anything but a "white Christmas." It's more like a "boiling hot, let's go skinny dip in the pool" type Christmas.

I found out what the weather's going to be tomorrow.....43 degrees. Celsius.

    I'm MELTING!!!!!

Funnily enough, on Friday it's meant to be a heck of a lot colder. Great timing for my first exam, not-so-great timing for my counselling appointments....(20 minute bus ride to get there)

I know I hate cold weather. In fact one could say I'm a sissy when it comes to cold weather, but dear GOD that is hot. I do not envy you in the slightest For the non Celsius folks that around 109 on the Fahrenheit scale.

It's going to be the hottest summer ever.

What makes it worse SSG is that I'm in Adelaide.

As for Tamworth yeah, I know the feeling. I have family there as well.

We're all hoping it's just part of the heatwave over here.

Summer we're hoping will be temperatures in the high 30's. For me that means lots and lots of aircon

ETA: I shudder to think what my little 3rd cousin and my 2nd cousin will be doing on Christmas day (both are around 7 months old, 3rd cousin will be with us, 2nd cousin will be in Perth with his mummy )

The 43 degrees Celsius I have ever experienced had a minus sign in front of it.

                    Sorry, but I am jealous.

It gets that hot here, usually with buckets of humidity along with it. I like heat, but even 109 is a bit much for me.

Would not be fun over the holidays.

                        I will trade with you.

Most likely because by about December here, it will be at least 0 or in the lower negatives. And by about my birthday, it can be like last year, -30 or worse.

I'd rather be stuck to my bed in sweat than unable to open my car doors or any doors for that matter. In less than a month, I'll have to start toting around the mini De-Icer that I will have to use every morning to get into my car and my apartment.

Ha! It doesn't get that cold here in my part of the state. We're in a valley that's fairly protected from the elements. But I had a car that for some reason, without fail, during the winter, the driver side door would freeze shut. Not the passenger side though, so I could just crawl over the seat. But as I drove to school, I'd try working the door open at traffic lights. Well there was one time, I got it open, but then the locking mechanism stuck open and I had to drive all the way to school holding my door shut and navigating icy roads. I left that door alone after that.

The northern half of my state gets that cold though... I hear it's epic. I look forward to moving to temperate places only. And by temperate I mean, never above 100, never below like, 20.

There are many times I think of you folks Down Under this time of year. Because inevitably at this time of year, several people from the Northeast or Midwest part of the U.S. will be here on vacation and I'll have the following conversation with them....

TOURIST: "It just doesn't feel like Christmas here!"
                            JESTER: "You're right."
TOURIST: "Yeah, it should be cold and snowy and stuff."
JESTER: "No, there should be cactuses with lights."
                            TOURIST: "What?"
JESTER: "I'm from the desert, that's what Christmas is like for ME."
                            TOURIST:

See, these people fail to realize that Christmas is not the same everywhere, and not everyone pictures it the way they picture it. For me, it's palm trees and cactuses with lights on them for decoration. (Luckily, here in the tropics, we DO have palm trees with lights.) And as I have often pointed out to these same people, in Australia, Christmas is a summer holiday. Which makes me wonder what y'all think of all those "Christmas" songs that talk about winter and snow and all.

I'm already on the west coast, There was a particular part of Oregon I was thinking of moving to. Summers average 85 at the hottest and it usually doesn't get below 40. It's the town my bf grew up in.
