I was reminded of this by orcprincesses comment in this thread that a SC once told her "it's nice that people without degrees can get work too."
So, who loves Cash Cab?
I do!! Me and the BF watch it pretty often. It's a fun show and we love Ben! Still can't figure out what the license plate means... but oh well. Anyway, last night we were watching an episode and this guy and his wife got into the cab. Ben did his over-the-top "Brooklyn" accent (to try and fool them in case they knew who he was by sight?) And asked them where they wanted to go. The woman laughed and asked if he was an actor. The husband then said, "If he were an actor then he'd be a waiter!"
So blah blah, it's Cash Cab, they play and get some money racked up. Two times after the guy answers a (pretty easy) question he says "that's what a college education does!" and also remarks on how he's a scientist. As if being a scientist makes you more knowledgeable about pop culture?? I feel like you can sometimes tell if Ben likes or is annoyed by the contestants, and he seemed really irritated by this guy. I was too! This guy was really snooty about how educated he was.
So they get to their destination. They can pick if they want to go double or nothing, so of course the guy is totally okay with it, because he is OF COURSE going to get the question right, being a college-attending scientist and all. He's so smug at this point it's just freaking hilarious, because he's acting like he's about the only person who ever won money on Cash Cab. Unfortunately I can't remember the question they were asked! But guess what?
He got it wrong
We laughed pretty hard after that. He seemed pretty embarrassed. I just hate when people who have a college degree think they they are SO much better and smarter and more important than everybody else. Personally I know a lot of people with college degrees who work in jobs too "low" for a college-educated person to have (yeah right), and I know a lot of people without them who are very intelligent... or at least smart enough to win Cash Cab!

I just don't like when people use that as an excuse to feel superior to someone. I bet most of us know how annoying it is to have to serve someone who automatically assumes we are uneducated because we work in a customer service position...
