  • I got attacked by a tree....

No, it's not as dark as it sounds.

This morning, we finally put up our Christmas trees (the last weekend was impossible as my sister volunteers in the pageant, I had a Christmas function and my boyfriend was staying over). My parents also did a bit of a cleanup around the house.

Two things resulted from that morning.

    1) Mum trying to clean the bathroom accidentally hit the window and wound up with a small cut on her forehead.
    2) When I was trying to straighten the branches out on our tree (fake and all), it wound up cutting me. I now have a nice bandaid over it.

So what's everyone else's trees looking like?

Ours is going to be artificial this year, since we don't really have the extra funds available to get a live tree. We're going to get it and the rest of our decorations out of storage this week at some point and put it up over the holiday.

This is our first holiday season together (married, not just dating) so we want it to be special.

If I have one at all, I am going to pick up and 18 inch purple fake one that I saw at the craft store. But I am thinking that I won't bother because it;s just me this year.

I have a three foot tree that is going on the porch and a six foot tree that is going in the living room. I usually put them out before heading to the Dickens Festival on Black Friday. I spend the morning decorating the house and the afternoon/evening at the festival.

The Dickens Festival is a recent tradition in Fayetteville, NC. People in 1840s period costumes come out in droves. There are fireworks (weather permiting), a candle-lit procession to the Market House for the tree/decoration lighting ceremony, vendors, cast members from the local preformance of A Christmas Carol walking around in character, horse-drawn carriages, carolers, a Santa dressed in a Victorian era costume, musicians, food, contests, and much more. I love going there. I've gone in costume a few times. I can't wait to go this year.

Ah, too bad. I saw the title and immediately thought, "Whomping Willow?".

I haven't even thought about the Christmas tree yet. I have to make it through Thanksgiving first.

That sounds wonderful! The local historic house has a Victorian-style celebration, too, and I'm hoping to try to make it to one of the teas this year.

As for our tree, we usually set up a miniature tree in our apartment, but I'm not sure we'll do that this year, what with the kitten and all. We'll likely set up a full-sized tree at my MIL's apartment (she has no pets) instead.

We don't put up tree until after Thanksgiving.

This year, I'm not sure if we're going to put up our traditional, fake, 6 foot tree or pull out our Charlie Brown Christmas Tree this year. (Bought it at the After-Christmas-Sale @ K-Mart last year).

We don't do a tree, we have a cat that will climb it and destroy ornaments. We might get a wreath for the front door, or maybe not.

Some people just are not really into seasonal decorations. No idea why, I love cooking for the different holidays, but we really don't care to decorate. We also live in a *very* small house and have no storage space for excess crap, we barely have enough space for what we need day to day.

I usually help Mom put up the tree the day after Thanksgiving. I couldn't last year, since I was driving back on Friday, but I'm not going back until Saturday this year. When I was living near home, though, sometimes we'd start putting stuff up earlier, much to my Dad's chagrin.

I may dig through her decorations and find a few things to put up in my apartment, especially since I won't get to go home for Christmas until the 19th.

I have a little tree that's about 18 inches or so high. The "roots" are wrapped in burlap and tied with a red bow. Last year I got a bunch of silver jingle bells and used red ribbon to hang them, and tied a red bow on the top as well. It's in my parents' attic so I won't get it until they get the stuff down, which won't be until next weekend, at least.

I also have an even smaller tree that was my grandmothers; it has a square base with 6 little drawers on each side (numbered 1-24). In each little drawer is a tiny little ornament (it's meant to be an Advent tree but I don't do the Advent thing). There's a little angel that sits on top, a garland made of beads, and a little string of lights (it uses a watch battery that goes into a little gift package attached to the end of the string; there's a little peg under the tree to hold the gift in place). The base is also a music box and has a little wind-up key (I forget what song it plays). The lights and garland are really too short, though, so I added another string of beads to it.

My parents use a fake tree, and usually my brother and I put our ornaments on it (we've been getting ornaments every year our whole lives, so we'd have our own collections for when we got our own trees - but I don't have room for a decent-size tree and I don't think my brother's going to bother this year).
