  • Wish me luck....

I'm driving home tomorrow! I took my car to get an oil change and trip inspection and was told that my suspension is alllmooosssst borked. The guy said that the rushings on the right front control arm are pretty bad, and the left side isn't doing a whole lot better. I'm not totally surprised - 1) it's an old car and 2) this town is notorious for potholes.

However, I was surprised to see the $800 estimate. *sigh* I don't have that kind of money laying about, so I called Dad and he said to go ahead and bring it home and he'll look at it. He seems confident that my car'll make it home in one piece, but I'm a bit nervous. It'll just be a longer drive than normal, since I'll have to take it slow and easy and avoid potholes. Have I mentioned it's a 500 mile, 8 hour drive through the Ozarks?

    Yay.

If your dad has a press, AA, the bushings are a pretty easy job. It's a classic $100 in parts and the rest in labour and equipment.

Just take it easy and enjoy the drive through the Ozarks - it's a great drive.

Knowing guys (well, being one helps), your dad would love to work on your car.

      Good luck!

Yeah, Dad has a lot of equipment and such and is very mechanically minded. He can't do as much as he used to, but I'm hoping he can at least get it better. If need be, he can get the parts on Friday, fix it on Saturday, and I'll drive home on Sunday. Not the original plan (drive back on Saturday, spend Sunday doing homework/laundry), but whatevs.

          Quick update:

Got the car home. On Friday, Dad got the necessary parts and stayed up until 2 am replacing the bushings. (He also replaced some lights that were missing.) Today, I get in my car....and now everytime I hit the brake suddenly there's a weird popping sound. So...I guess I'll be calling Toyota first thing on Monday. wheeeee.

But, I'm back in my apartment, after fighting some hellacious traffic. I forgot the dumplings my aunt gave me, but the banana pudding Momma sent home with me is waiting in the fridge.
