So, a group of us are attempting to research adn eventually publish a history of our village. As I'm off work this week i've spent most of it in the local archives poring through old papers. And yes that is a lot more interesting than it sounds.
I've been reading a set of diaries of one chap's day to day life in the village in the 1870's. The diaries have only recently been found in amongst some unrelated papers so the archivist believes that i am the first person to properly read them saince they were written. And today i made a discovery.
What i think is proof that Dr Who has visited our village.
In 1876 our diarist decided to call on Miss Sarah Jane Smith who was lodging with the Dr on Green Street. Whilst waiting for her to get ready to accompany to him on walk about the village he stuck up a conversation with the doctor who was "a most learned and travelled man."
Later the diarist invited the Dr to address his Self improvement Class at the local public hall wehere the Doctor demonstrated a piece of electrical equipment for curing ailments "such as has never been seen in the village before."
This prompted me to do a bit of further research.
There is no record of the birth or baptism of Sarah Jane Smith up to that time in the parish. Nor any record up to then or after of her marriage or death.
No other name is given other than the doctor for the gentleman. And the local trade directories of the time only list the local doctor that we are already aware of.
So there we have it. A mysterious, well travelled stranger known only as The Doctor. Knowledgable in modern electrics and accompanied by Sarah Jane Smith. They appear from no where and dissappear to no where. Proof i think that the greatest Time lord of them all visited our village!
