  • What time is it? Must be TOOTH HURTY

Anywho, I went to the dentist to get a cavity filled, it took me a month to get this appt, as the office was full and my particular dentist is not there all the time. Actually it was a broken filling that was broken when my braces were removed. So, he tells me my cavity is pretty close to the nerve root and to watch for any extraordinary pain as I may need a root canal if the pain continues.

All goes well and I go home to bed (I had just gotten off third shift) and sleep a grand total of 2 hrs before I wake up and feel like my face is literally on fire. I have NEVER EVER been in soo much pain in my life, I have a pretty high pain tolerance and Ive had two kids!!

I take all the motrin i can shove in my face and heat pack it up and the pain actually get worse. I call my dentist and he offers to call in a script for pain pills - 800 mg motrin... I try to explain that Ive already taken a shitload MORE than 800 mg motrin, he seems surprised that i had. And then calls in some Tylenol 3's (tylenol with codeine) and gives me another number to call...the guy who specializes in root canals....

Within a few hours the pain dies down to a tolerable roar and by bedtime goes away all together, all the tylenol 3 did was make me sleepy. Today its been tolerably achy all day and Im scared I may need a root canal. /sigh. I dont do well with dental procedures. You shouldve seen the hell i was in when my wisdom teeth were pulled.

Anyone had one before? What can i expect?

Im going to give it a week, im going back to the dentist for something else on the 15th and Ill talk it over with him and see what he says if the pain doesnt flare up by then.

I've had a root canal. I've had "monthlies" that hurt *much* worse. I think I can guarantee that you're in much more pain now than the root canal will cause you.

My dad had a root canal recently; he whined a lot but it was mostly jokingly...he had pain but not too terrible (except when he forgot and bit down on something by accident).

I have to get a crown next week. I have a filling that they've been watching for the last 2 or 3 visits, because it's cracked, and last time they said I should get it taken care of. It's too big to just refill it, unfortunatly. I go Tuesday for the temporary crown, and then I'll have to go back 3 weeks or so later for the permanent one. Don't quite know what to expect with the temp crown...

I had a root canal. No biggie. It was cake compared to my wisdom tooth extraction but that's a horror story I won't regale you with right now.

          Root canal was nothing.

My root canal was awful, why? They fubared up on the anasthetic dosage for me.

I had a root canal at 20 on one of my molars. The dentist just numbed the area with a crap ton of Novacaine (which had me drooling like a mofo after I got out for a good hour or so). It's not so bad. Just keep yourself distracted through out it with music or a DVD.

When i think about it....I had my wisdom teeth out a few years back, and theres no WAY it is as bad as that. I developed dry socket on my lower right side....heh. Talk about bad luck.

Its still achy today, but not so that I cant function. Root canal it is, i guess. Im still thinking about waiting another week before I call the specialist guy. I can only thank Gods I have insurance right now.

let me know about this-I'm supposed to get two of them-I have two teeth that are seriously 70% filling-the only part that's real tooth is the root-my dentist can fill anything(one tooth was broken off-the other was totally hollow)
Honestly.... the image of that in my head made me go "AWESOME!"..... and then I remembered I am terribly strange.-Red dazes

I've had a sore tooth lately too, although thankfully, I think, I can't really feel the pain over the Flu I've got

Ironically this is the only time I've been ill with it, how did I get it? going to and from the store for my mum who got Flu and Swince Flu jabs at the start of this week.

I felt sorry for the dentist who removed one of my teeth a while ago, that was a monster, it was a 3 rooter (or whatever those point bits are called )

See if you can interview the oral surgeon doing the root canal before your appointment. Ask how he deals with wimps. The one time I had a root canal, I got one impatient SOB that didn't believe I was in pain. My regular dentist is extremely empathetic, and maybe he spoils me, but I sure hated that other guy!
