Actually, the winter so far is pretty mild. Sure, it's cold as hell out, but there's very little snow and ice to deal with. Also, yes we have snow...but unlike Jester, we don't worry when hurricane season starts

We are due for 4-8 inches tomorrow.....although more southern parts of Wisconsin are forecasted 8-12 inches!

And it's supposed to last from Tuesday afternoon until Wednesday night!

It's not set to snow until noon tomorrow, so I'm going to pack up and do my errands, then spend the next two days at my parents' house so I don't have to attempt to drive 15 miles to work in this slop.

8 to 14 inches here. Living practically on the lake really sucks sometimes.

And I have to be to work at 4 am Wednesday. Fuck me gently with an icicle.

It's trying to snow. But right now it's just a little bit of powder. Supposed to snow all day tomorrow, but we'll see.

          But, damn, it's cold.

I hope you have a safe and short drive, Irv.

I finally decided to quit being stubborn and take my parents up on their offer to stay at their place when big storms are forecasted, since they are just a few miles down the road from work, and I'd only have to conquer one really bad intersection.

I have to do 12 hour shifts both Tues and Weds, and considering how heavy traffic is between 6-7 pm and how bad the roads will be, it'd be just a nightmare to even attempt from where I live.

Edit to add: I wonder if the employees in my new department are as bad about calling in during snow as my old ones were. It was always without fail, people who lived right in town would call in sick, but people who lived out in the sticks always made it to work....albeit sometimes late and not always in one piece, but they made it.

I'm already tired of winter too. I had to scrape ice off my windows with my driver's license! No one around here owns ice scrapers. I live in Florida for a reason.

Stay warm, my northern friends! My parentals are from up north and they are always talking about the snow and how they don't miss it.

Good thing about cooler weather--drives sales for the warmth shop so we won't have a lot of markdowns to do in coats, winterwear, and blankets and so forth. Anytime it dips below 40, people pile into the store like there is a winterstorm outside and they MUST have heavy winter coats, hats, gloves, and scarves.

But sorry back down to -25C on Sunday.

Well, If it's the same forecast I'm seeing then you are thinking the wrong city. We're showing a steady increase over the next 10 days.

Hey now, I get to deal with...uhm...lake effect...wind or something >_> We actually had snow last year near xmas! It lasted all of four hours before it was all gone. That's actually the first time I can remember that stuff actually reaching the street before evaporating. Ever.

And, of course, this being New Orleans, it's still gonna be nice and humid anyway, thermometer be damned x.x

So really, you're doing me a favour.
Glad to help! (Although, to be fair, there have been times when someone else from somewhere warm started the mocking before I did. Not often, but it has happened.)

Um, while I live in Hurricane Alley, I do NOT worry when hurricane season starts. In my ten years here, I have never evacuated for a storm, and I have missed only one hurricane in all that time, and that was because I was on a pre-planned vacation in California during Hurricane Ike last year.

                        Me? Worry? Please.

You really want your brain broken? Your freezer is warmer than it is outdoors. During winter in Canada, it's common for people to chill things by sticking them on their back step. I know people who keep old broken fridges in the back yard for free extra "cold storage."

it is real fun when I put away the supply truck at the pizza place during this time of year. I go inside the freezer just to warm up after coming in from a delivery run.

I walked for an hour in it and it was so beautiful. Layers work wonders. I had on a tissue-weight long-sleeved tee, a sweatshirt, and puffer jacket. Scarf, too. I put leggings on under my Hanes sweatpants and topped it all off with duck boots. My face froze, but it's fine now. So glad I did it; wouldn't have spent my afternoon any other way.

I walked And it was great! I was layered.....my new jacket really keeps in my body heat (I get cold if I'm just standing, but the jacket was made to be active in) I didn't wear base layers, but under the jacket I had a light fleece and a long sleeve shirt. I was being a wimp when I saw the temp.....I was toasty warm
