  • Conflict!

So, first off, I'm whining. There's really nothing I can do about this, but I feel the need to vent to ya'll.

I might be landing a new job today. Normally, this would be a thing of much rejoicing, as I've been searching for over a year. The problem lies in the living arrangements, as the job is in St. Louis.

I don't even get to live in my parents' basement, I'm stuck in my old bedroom. The basement will be set up as a sort of "apartment" where most of my stuff will live, but not me.... We don't use the furnace during the winter, since we mainly rely on the fireplace, thus, no heat in the basement. No heat + basement =BRRRR!!!

My bedroom, as I'm finding out, is just TINY with a queen sized bed in it. I'm going to be lucky to fit my main dresser in my bedroom (Right now, I have two dressers... Okay, techincally, 4, but two that I have in my bedroom right now.)

So the main conflict is that I just don't want to move. I don't have a choice, I need to move back home, get some money saved, be closer to a support system, and all that, but still. I like my house. It's mine. It's falling apart, almost literally. BUT IT'S MINE!!!!!!

The secondary conflict is that I want what my parents promised me and then later, my brother and his baby mamma a long time ago.. I want the front living room as a bedroom. I'd be able to have most of my stuff with me in one room. BUT... my mom wants to turn it into a Mediterranean themed living room. They keep promising me anything I want to make the move more comfortable, but I don't know if that's asking too much.

The thirdary (tee hee) conflict is the job itself. It's a classic less responsibility, more pay situation, but physically working on PCs like I do now and LOVE doing is not what I'll be doing. If I can fix something in less than 15 minutes remotely, I can, otherwise I pass it on to another technician. I'm used to doing that... when the phones are busy, and I don't have time to fix it. But doing it full time is a little... eh.... plus, I'll be supporting blackberries, which I've never used, and only can hope that I'll have access to one to troubleshoot issues. I think this is just normal pre-new job jitters, but I've been at my current job for coming up on 5 years. There's no opportunity for advancement, but I don't really want to advance, I just want a larger paycheck... and for a (l)user to retire.

Sigh, okay, I can't think of anything to ramble on about, and I have a work order to go run. So, if anyone actually read this,. and actually has comments, please let me know if I'm just crazy.

i can definitely understand your concern for points 1 and 2, on point 3 i think youre looking at it from the wrong angle, the new job is a challenge. see it as such and you will be able to expand your technical knowledge and keep your current skills sharp. anyone can fix a comp when its at hand, the truest test of a tech is getting a user to fix it by verbal instruction alone.(at least in my experience). what ever your decision, your freinds here will happily support it, with both words and wishes.
