  • Guests From Hell!

I am SO pissed off and need to rant right now...

This weekend we hosted two Russian ladies from The Carter Center that were attending Domestic Violence Awareness training in DC. We've hosted various Russians from the Carter Center in the past and it's always a lot of fun, a hoot. Hubby Sven speaks fluent Russian. The purpose of the weekend program is to give Russian leaders a chance to experience the life of an average American for a weekend. Usually what happens is we pick them up in DC, they stay in our guest room, we take them to the Shenandoah National Park, shopping at Wal Mart (number 1 request of all Russians), go hiking, cook, eat, laugh, drink and just have a fun time.

Not this weekend. This time our gruesome two arrived, acted rather snotty and unfriendly and immediately holed up in their room, not even coming out for dinner. The next morning they emerged and demanded to be taken back to DC because, get this, we live in a rural/suburban area and they wanted to go shopping at the high end shops and go to all the museums, things they could have told us earlier. As we were loading the car these two got to witness our trashy across the street neighbor beat his wife's head in with a hammer, the cops, ambo and press arrive. One of them is a professor that goes around Russian training law enforcement how to properly recognize and treat domestic violence and the other is the head of a Russian government agency dedicated to reducing the high rates of domestic violence in Russia. Awk-ward!

So today I'm feeling all sorts of frustrated, especially after hearing from the program coordinator that the two were upset that their quarters here. We live in a nice 4 bedroom cape cod with lots of upgraded features. They stayed in my son's recently remodeled/repainted room. The floor was new, I put new bedding on the beds, they had a remodeled bathroom with fresh paint and flooring. I put flowers in there, the room was beautifully decorated with all new furniture and lamps. In the bath I put out the nicest toiletries and extras. They trashed the room, trash on the floor, abandoned shoe boxes, bottles of water and left over teacups everywhere have filled with tea leaving nice little watermarks on most of the new furniture.

So I scrubbed the house, cooked like a mule and made everything as welcoming and perfect as I could and these bitches acted like nothing was good enough. Well fuck you both Ms. Russias.

I'd let the program coordinator know that you're just as upset as they are (probably more so, in fact) and tell him or her everything you went through for these people...it's not fair for you to get dinged just because the guests didn't like your neighborhood, especially if it's going to affect who and how you host for future guests. What pigs.

I don't know Russian but my grandparents probably remember some. Can we stay with you?

They'd think your place was really nice and would be horrified to do something that would make you think they were bad guests.
How was I supposed to know someone was slipping you Birth Control in the food I've been making for you lately?

I don't know any Russian either, but maybe your hubs could teach me?

Besides, Mr. Rum has a hankering to visit his folks again. I drop him off at his folks's house and then Child Rum & I stay at your place for the weekend?

I promise we'll be good guests. And Child Rum doesn't like tea and if I give her enough coloring books, she won't make a peep.

I'm sorry to hear about the 2 guests from hell. Hopefully the next time you're called upon to host some Russians, they'll be nicer?

The only thing I remember from my Russian classes (6th grade gifted and talented program in elementary school) is the numbers one to four.

Which makes me a contestant in the Russian Upper Class Twit of the Year Competition.

Sure, everyone come stay in my guestroom. I don't mind!

Called the coordinator and explained a few things to her and she's cool with it. Seems like these bitches thought that they would be staying in DC proper instead of the boonies. Sent her photos of the damage here. We've hosted a lot of people who've had nothing but nice things to say about us. This time was some weirdo fluke.

What abuse of kindness, man. I'm sorry you had to deal with this. I really am.

And I have to agree with my husband on this (I like to read CS posts to him) -- If we were visiting DC, we would *not* want to be in the city proper. We would also loooovee to be in a home versus a hotel, period.

Some people are just never happy. To quote my anger management teacher: "some people's life sucks so much they feel compelled to dump it on everybody else."

                      Thanks!

I've come to that conclusion too, when trying to figure out why the hell some people are such jerkwads.
