  • Music Help

Right now, I am working on a story. The story is about a guy who becomes best friends with a girl, but falls in love with her, even though he knows there isn't a chance that he could be with her because she is already spoken for, but come to find out, she loves him too.

I'm very motivated by music and need some songs that sound like the above plot to listen to as I write this. Any suggestions?

First one that comes to mind is Lips of an Angel, by Hinder. Both with someone else, supposedly friends, but much deeper feelings, going by the lyrics.

I have to dig through my playlists. Will post more later.

ETA: Slipknot - Vermillion pt 2
Good Charlotte - Where Would We Be NoW?
Skillet - Yours to Hold (Not from Best friends perspective, but a good song about unrequited love, maybe?)
Stabbing Westward - What do I have to do?
    Weezer - My Best Friend
    Clay Aiken - Invisible

I have a really eclectic music collection...

      "Cab" by Train.

      A sample of the lyrics

"New York snow this time of year
There's nothing more beautiful to me
      Except for you
Making my way on the town
And I'm seeing familiar places, faces
In my pile of coffee grounds

The days are better, the nights are still so lonely
Sometimes I think I'm the only cab on the road
Sometimes I think I'm the only cab on the road
      "

      And check your PMs.

The Maiden and the Minstrel Knight by Blind Guardian.

        http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s-7LabndwIk

It's pretty much a song of wanting to be together but having to stay apart.

        Sample of the Lyrics.

        There's a moment in life
When all the years will pass by
And the eyes filled with tears
        We once shed
        We recognize failures
        The desperate cries
Of the ones who believed in our lies

Wherever I'll go you'll be with me
My first though and my last though
        we'll depart in bitterness
        one day you'll understand
        Carry on, beloved maiden, mine
Cary on or we have to pay the price

Will you still wait for me
Will you still cry for me
        Come and take my hand
Will you still wait for me
Will you still cry for me
        Come and take my hand

In the beginning of this you could use Diary by Bread. Then later in the story she divorces the a-hole shes with then he finds out about it and you could use Open Arms by Journey.
Then at the end they get married then you could use Paradise by the Dashboard Light by Meatloaf Or for a happier ending use Will You Still Love Me by Chicago. If you have a wedding scene use Colour MY World by Chicago at the Wedding

Lord knows I'm not a country music fan, but you might want to check out Garth Brooks' "Unanswered Prayers."

While that plot does seem interesting, honestly, it's not as it seems. The guy the character, Renee, is with is not an asshole. She does love the person she's with, but she's fighting with the fact that she does have feelings for someone else too. I don't know how the end will work either. I'll just have to see what the characters take me to because it's not the author who writes the story, it's the characters.

Thank you everyone for the music suggestions. I will certainly listen to them as I write the story. I'm hoping to get it done and send it in to a publisher. =)

"skeleton (everybody's favorite)" by astronautalis. according to astro the song was inspired by standing on a beach during a hurricane, trying to tell a woman who was also on the beach that he thought she was beautiful, but she couldn't hear him over the wind and waves. it's really a beautiful song. you can find it on youtube.

Just please tell me you are not writing a songic. That's all I ask.

I mean, you can write one, but leave the song part unwritten. If you need the song to carry the story, write the story better instead of including it.

Or, hell, tell me to get stuffed, it's your story.

It's not a songfic, but I like to listen to music as I write it, especially music that goes with it.

I know what you mean, there's one particular song I listen to that's given me ideas for 5 different stories, none of them related at all to the song

"Black Coffee in Bed" by Squeeze has some interesting lyrics that may apply. Ditto "Tempted," also by Squeeze.

                              Just a thought.
