They seem mild at first, but after a couple of bites the spice has a kick. I googled a recipe that includes butter, sugar, molasses, flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves. I added nutmeg and white pepper. I'll post amounts if anyone wants."Is it hot in here to you? It's very warm, isn't it?"--Nero, probably

It's your basic cream the butter and sugars, stir together the dry ingredients, incorporate into the wet ingredients recipe. You can shape it into a couple rolls, freeze, & slice and bake, but I just rolled out 1/8 inch (3 mm) thick and cut with drinking glasses. Bake on ungreased cookie sheets 350 F for 10 to 12 min.
Ingredients, my variations in (parenthesis): 1 cup butter (Smart Balance margarine), 1 cup granulated sugar, 1/2 cup molasses, 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon baking soda, 1/2 tsp salt, 1 tablespoon ground ginger, 2 tsp cinnamon, 2 tsp ground cloves, (1/2 tsp nutmeg), (1/2 tsp WHITE pepper--black will have wrong flavor/texture)Last edited by Food Lady; 12-10-2009, 03:58 PM."Is it hot in here to you? I had to Google it also. Much to my surprise, I've had them- I just didn't know what they were other than, "some holiday cookie".
Yum.
