  • In an odd twist of fate...

    In this thread: http://www.customerssuck.com/board/s...ad.php?t=57290

I lamented how my hubby won a netbook that i wanted then sold it.

Well then, yesterday, i wake up in the afternoon and notice my laptop isnt where it usually is, and my husband is on the phone with a grave face. Who was he on the phone with you ask? Well, he was talking to Dell.

Apparently he tried to "clean" my laptop, and SOMEHOW got windex inSIDE the damn screen, resulting in a LARGE bright patch in the corner of my screen and a buzzing noise when its turned on. THANKFULLY, i have accidental protection after my last laptop drank a whole glass of wine and decided not to work.

I now have to wait for Dell to send a box, ship it out and wait for them to send it back.

I couldn't help but point out, If I had a netbook right about now, I wouldnt mind having to wait for my laptop to be repaired. Right now, im stuck in the family room, in the corner, on my hubbys desktop, which i fuckin hate.

    Once again...Le Sigh..

    Lol.

Screens are easy to replace. I do several a month.

I hope he can get it fixed quickly but you should be able to connect a monitor to it and still use it - that is as long as he didn't fry the motherboard.

According to a friend of mine, letting the laptop dry out may be enough to fix it.

Not necesarily, i had a roomies cat spray the screen on mine, it eternally had 3 round splortches where the spray hit it. Apparently the screen is several layers laminated and while water or alcohol can be dried out, certain other chemicals will delaminate the screen. I have an almost perfectly good HP from 7 years ago except for the screen [every now and then I would crank it up and use an external monitor for it - when I had someone who wanted to play one or another of the older games that don't really work well on newer OSs.]

Not with Windex. The chemicals in the formula do not evaporate entirely, leaving a residue that is blatantly visible on a lit screen.

Im on the laptop now...(LETS HOPE IT DOESNT EXPLODEEEE!!!!). The spot has gotten a little smaller, but its still buzzing. Im sending it in anyways, Ill get a new screeen out of it and the case will be tighter so that hopefully, it will be liquid proof.

Bad part about alll this ....My hubby is a PC repair tech.... He works in a call center but fixes and builds PCs on the side. Yes he is certified. And hes very good at doing it...just apparently, ran out of common sense. Lol.

And Plaid..I better NOT get a netbook for Xmas! If I find out he spent several hundred dollars on a netbook when he had one for free, I'll admittedly be upset. Lol.
