  • I got some nice presents and dinner

My daughter bought me a necklace with a heart engraved with the word mom entwined with one that says daughter along with a poem that says what one teaches the other. The necklaces come apart, so we can both wear our heart.

She also got me a card with a huge pin in it that says #1 MOM and how I should run for President.

The boys bought me stuffed fluffy puppies, which are looking at me right now. Along with a card saying that I hear "me" "me" "me" enough from them, so now I can hear "you" "you" "you" for a change.

My husband gave me my combination birthday/Christmas present today. It was a strand of black pearls, black pearl earrings and a black pearl ring. I have wanted black pearls for the longest time and I finally got them. Yes, he is allowed to combine a gift if it's a gift like that.

We had dinner at my favorite restaurant "Olive Garden" where we had a wonderful waitress who picked up on my birthday, but also picked up on the fact that I would be far from amused if anyone sung to me. So, she got a bigger than normal tip for that.

I also have a Black Forest Cake that we will all be eating tomorrow, made by a real German baker. He said about the cake "This is a real German Black Forest Cake! Not that crap they make here in the states!" He is funny.

        Happy belated birthday!

And a question. What is the difference between a real Black Forest Cake and "the crap" ones we make here in the US?

I will answer that question after we cut into it tomorrow and eat some of it. My husband picked it up and that is when the German baker tried to tell him the difference, but my husband was in too much of a hurry to hear all of it.

We weren't told that anything was going to be different when we placed the order, so we will see. I do love Black Forest Cake though! MMMMM!

Since I'm usually running all over hell to find my husband's favorite birthday cake every year. I have already placed his cake order for next month at that shop for German chocolate cake, which is Mr. Mis favorite birthday cake.

If we are going by price, the German baker charged us less than what we do pay if we actually get lucky and someone has my favorite cake in stock and can spell my name correctly. I'm sorry, but I refuse to have a birthday cake with my own name misspelled on it, thanks.

The cake the German baker made was bigger too, so we shall have to see what it looks like when it's been cut into and what it tastes like when I eat some of it.

Now you need to stop being jealous of my birthday cake!

Thanks Mis! As a lover of BFC myself and as a baker, I am very interested! I am also somewhat amused that a German baker actually makes German chocolate cake, which is actually an American invention.

We asked the lady who takes the orders if they make German chocolate cake and she said yes. I haven't talked to the baker to see how he feels about making them. I'm sure he will tell me a story about it when I go to pick it up next month.

I used to work with a lady who was from Germany and she would make that cake for your birthday from scratch. That meant buying fresh cherries and cooking them down, no cake mix, and real cream she whipped herself.

Well, from scratch goes without saying. At least when it comes to anything I make. The closest thing to a "mix" I have in my house is White Lily self-rising flour which is used exclusively for buttermilk biscuits and pancakes.

Happy Birthday, Mis. I hope your cake is wonderful. My husband's favorite is German Chocolate as well, I've made it the last two years for him. I will have to see about making a Black Forest Cake sometime, it sounds really good!
