  • Calling upon my CS'ers to help settle a little dilemma...

The Unofficial Fiancee (UF) and I are looking into opening up a local bakery (we only have one in town and they aren't that special) & soup/sandwich shop. We are stuck on names. He came up with "Anoka Bakery", inspired by the city's name, and I came up with "Tortes, Reformed" which was inspired by the location we are likely going to be at, is right next door to the county courthouse, and we have several attorney offices surrounding the location.

So, which is the better name?
    40
    Anoka Bakery
    10.00%
    4
    Tortes, Reformed
    90.00%
    36

    The poll is expired.

    "Tortes reformed." Definitely.

"Tortes Reformed" sans comma. If you include the comma it may introduce some confusion as to whether the place name might be "Reformed Tortes" in actuality, since a comma is often used as a separator in things like "Last Name, First Name," or "Store, The." Unless you actually want that. I dunno. Something to consider.

The ellipses is definitely better than the comma, both for looks and lessening confusion. I like it

My personal opinion is that it should be something of a combination. "Tortes Reformed Bakery," perhaps.

Why add the "Bakery" at the end of the name? Simple. While it may look like a bakery, and smell like a bakery, and perhaps even sound like a bakery, with all the idiots walking around out there who either would understand the name but not get the joke and thus realize it is a bakery, or not get the name at all as a legal reference and just ignored it as something confusing, you might lose a lot of potential customers.

I think that anyone who DOES get the joke will get it and smile either way, but for those who are a bit dimmer, but who are still potential clientele (i.e., revenue), it should probably have the word "bakery" right up there in huge letters with the rest of the name.

So I vote for None of the Above, and write my ballot in with "Tortes Reformed Bakery."

And now I shall exit stage left.

I like Tortes, Reformed the way it is. It does make grammatical sense the way it is.

How about Bake Shop as a subtitle under the shop name, so you'd have Tortes, Reformed in big letters and under that Bake Shop in smaller letters.

Oh I planned to have something like 'bakery & sandwich cafe' or similar, under the name.

However to keep potential SC's out... maybe not, lol!

As long as you're giving out free samples...

Tortes Reformed. Anoka Bakery sounds so simplistic, plus it feels like it needs an "'s" at the end.
